Yes I've already had to switch to the 9 1/2M's. All I've been able to find

Exact opposite here, I haven't seen a brick of LRM primers since before Covid.

All I've used in everything for the past 20 -25 years is WLRM. Of course, I've shot mostly larger bore mediums and big bores during that time. After a lot of tests, I've generally found the WLRM primers to give consistently best results.

I still have some Winchester large rifle primers where the boxes are marked, "For standard or magnum rifle loads". As results were the same on target or over the chronograph I've used them interchangeably ever since.

That is indeed a dry area. The rainfall average here is about 62" per year. 80+ degree dew points anyone? grin

There's a reason the inland, western U.S. is still sometimes called "the great American desert!" I once looked up the average yearly precip for all the larger Montana towns, and the "wettest" still only gets around 20 inches.

Flying over the western states between 20k and 30k above SL gives a good perspective how dry it is out there.

I've noticed Winchester large pistol primers marked this way, but never knew the LR primers were interchangeable.

All this talk leading to weather, where the banana belt is and what they are having for dinner blah blah blah etc. Your post sums it up. That's all I'd do^^^ OP, if you are going to try a different primer. "WORK UP". Nuff said.

John in your signature line it has Banana belt? Is that the Little Belt Mountains? I've been to Belt, nice little town.

I have fond memories of lunches at the American Bar in Sand Coulee. I wonder if it still there?

We're in the north-south valley between the Big Belt Mountains to the east and Elkhorn Mountains to the west--but Banana Belt is a semi-joke, refering to the comparatively warm and dry weather here. It's sort of a semi-desert, due to most snow falling on the mountains on either side, and while the temperature can still get really cold and we occasional get plenty of snow, in general it's a little warmer and drier than Helena, the state capital and nearest "big" town, around 30 miles north. Precipitation averages 10 inches a year, while Helena averages 12.

Shortly after we moved here, a friend from Missoula was driving through on his way to eastern Montana to hunt. It was snowing like hell on the pass outside of Helena, and also Bozeman Pass, to the southeast. The sky was perfectly clear here.

Belt is actually in the Highwood Mountains, which are north of the Little Belt Mountains--and yep, it's a nice little town!

Haven't been to Sand Coulee for many years, so dunno whether the American Bar is still there....

1987 I was in the USAF and went TDY to the Mang in GF for their conversion to the F-16. I was there 4 months, it was the best time in my young life. The American Bar was the balls.
