These whitetails were between Cloudcroft and Mayhill. The one in your picture was probably killed in the eastern part of New Mexico. The southwestern part of New Mexico has the coues whitetail deer.

Yep, they just moved into the area I elk hunt a few years ago. NE area of the state around Eagle Nest and Raton. Two years ago on a pronghorn hunt I ran into a high 140’s buck while passing through some small alfalfa fields. He was a beauty. Ranch would not let me buy a tag though…

There have been some nice WT bucks near Raton for many years now. Raton to Des Moines area usually holds some.

I’ve hunted the TO ranch. They killed the state record there in 2018. I don’t remember what it scored. We saw several beautiful buck while elk hunting.

NE NM Canadian River country near TX border has had them for years now too. They are much bigger up there than in the Sacramento Mtn areas.

Not surprising that the whitetail bucks are bigger in NE New Mexico than they are in the Sacramento mts.

We also hunted West of Folsom 30 years ago on the CO line where the Cimarron runs into NM from Colorado. We saw whitetails there too, but not many of them.
