Barbasol. My dad used it. I use it. Never changes. And it's cheap.

I’ve been wet shaving for years. A vintage Gillette ‘New’ razor with the open comb and Arko stick soap give a great shave. Arko is made in Turkey and pretty cheap too. Makes a great lather.

The fact is that everybody's beard is different. What works best for me may not be worth a flip for you - and vice versa.

Experiment. None of this is expensive (except for Gillette crap). Fine soft beard like mine? Cremo cream and razor, or Secret Shave oil. Need to shave barbed wire twice a day? You'll need something else. I just don't know what.

Whatever you use, the only secret is to wash your beard with soap and water first. That softens the hairs, cleans the skin of clogging debris, and lubricates.

Shaving soap and a brush for me. I can't remember the brand, just know it when I see it.

In my travel kit, I carry a tiny bottle of Shave Secret oil. It is clove oil based, and you only need about five drops of it. Leaves a great smell.

Rocky suggested cremo to me years ago. Very good advice. Shaves close with no cuts.

Bar soap while showering. We use Irish spring original now because it doesn't leave scum on the shower walls. Since boot camp in 1969.

Which one? They vary, greatly.

And they don't travel very well.

Guess I'll try my bar soap first. If that doesn't work out will try Cremo Original. Then, old fashioned shave soap and a brush. Lastly - Just quit shaving!

Try the Cremo, use lots of water, not a lot of Cremona as per the instructions.

I use that like a base coat, then soap with a brush.
The razor just glides along.

Merkur slant, Voskod or Gillette Blue blades.
Not sure if the blades are still available. When we started sanctions on Russian stuff I stocked up.

Don't use the stuff, hair clippers and do face and head at the same time... about every 4 months (sometimes look like Santa Clause). If I decide to actually shave, its bar soap and double-edged razor. Why would anyone wat to use a foam with all the oil they put in bar soaps today?
