Are the Tikka Superlite rifles still being manufactured? Tikka's website shows the Superlite as an option, but most places show just the Lite version in stock. I am wanting to buy a new rifle, and would like to stay in the 6.5-7 lb range (scoped). I was thinking the Tikka Superlite in 7mm-08 would be a great all around do all gun.

The superlite is exclusive to sportsman’s warehouse. I believe you can buy online and have it shipped to local ffl.

Yes, but if you aren't already invested in 7-08 I might go 6.5 creed for ammo availability. Can't answer but I would check gunsinternational.com

P I thought I remembered that you are a fan! Something about Big Game powder in a Tikka 7mm-08 comes to mind. I have some Big Game on my reloading bench!

Just get the regular lite. Save some cash and carry a couple more ounces.

Just get the regular lite. Save some cash and carry a couple more ounces. Exactly. The lite don't weigh nothing. I'd suggest a 308. Will do anything a 7-08 or 6.5 will do and more. Plus ammo is everywhere. Never seen a tikka that wouldn't shoot about any factory ammo great. I had a 6.5x55 that shot 131 grain privi ammo in a rag hole.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Let's put it this way I removed the fluted superlite barrel from my tikka and put on a non fluted barrel. Didn't notice a thing.

I’ve got 2 Lites and one Superlite, I prefer the balance of my Lites a wee bit better.

I'll go a little farther than most here.
Are you even certain you want something that Lite? The T3 SS in 6.5 Swede is probably mechanically my favorite rifle. The slippy stock is my only gripe, and I have gripes about every gun.
But I don't shoot it well. At least without a rest of some kind. It waves like a flag in the wind and it's really east to pull the shot.
Certain I just teed myself to be called all kinds of a poor shooter, will not even claim to be great. But guns just a little heavier help hide the ineptitude.

They really don't weigh much. With a heavier scope (I have a Trijicon Ascent in Sportsmatch rings) it seems a bit stable, but planning on shooting a 223 version offhand a lot. No chore really since I like both rifles a lot. (2 T3x Lites here, not SL)

Can’t go wrong with either one . lite or super lite. I haven’t weighted them but holding my tikka in 223 is heavier than my 06. I think the barrel is the same thickness but the bigger hole in 30 cal makes it lighter. Love my tikkas. My SL in 6.5 CM has 24” and it’s bit long for my taste. 22” would be much better . If you ever plan on putting on a can or making the barrel shorter. Flutted throws a wrench in it .

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

Well I was wanting to try one that goes light! My lightest rifle is probably 8 lb range scoped. I was wanting to see how a lighter one carried. Curious, at what weight point would you say is the least you would like to go and still be able to shoot it well?

Curious, at what weight point would you say is the least you would like to go and still be able to shoot it well? The funny thing is some guys can shoot them and others not so much. The other day my buddy brought out his heavy azzed Savage in a chassis. His rifle weighs 13-14 pounds and was shooting 1" groups. He was talking about using it as a "long range" hunting rifle that he can put in his eberelstock and hike around with. I told him that I have a Tikka that is much lighter and it probably shoots just as good as his heavy azzed Savage. The main difference is the Tikka is 7 pounds all up. His eyes lit up when I told him I'd sell it to him for $600.00. Later that day he put his Savage on consignment at the LGS. Shooting a rifle well, even in field positions, is more about fit/feel, inherent accuracy of said rifle, and the nut behind the butt. Also, the Tikka stock can be painted and texture added, if you don't like the "slick" feel of the plastic stock. I've never been too bothered with the factory Tikka stocks and I've hunted a lot in the rain and snow. You can also buy a different stock, like the roughtech I put on my 7mm08: I paid around $79.00 for this one and really like it. As for lite vs. superlite, they are both great rifles.

Anyone can get something from a rest or bench, my T3 shoots well from even a makeshift bench. But it's still harder than a heavier gun.
Off hand is where it matters, and where I struggle with lite guns.
A friend has a 300 mag built by Hart. Heavy, 2oz Jewel trigger.
He put up a 2'x2' piece of brown paper at 100 yards. Not a mark on it. Let me play with the trigger to get used to it,then loaded 3 rounds and handed it to me. They went into a 3 or 4" group.
Pretty darn good for my skills.
The guns accuracy would be the last thing I attribute that to. It's obviously an important factor. But the silhouette style stock, weight, and that amazing trigger are what gave the barrel a chance to shine. I would never hunt with that trigger, but when the gun fires itself under your thoughts, its marvelous.

I bought a Tikka 308 a couple of years ago, and the box is marked lite xtra. How does that figure in the mix?
