๐ We saw it today. Very well done and lots of big names in it.
I knew his name of course, familiar with the project history a bit, but much more to the man and the story I was not familiar with.
Now I want a well written biography about JRO.

I'll rate it 3 out of 5 points.
I'm glad I saw it.. would I go back and see it again? Yes.. at least on $5 Tuesdays..
Never knew Oppenheimer had some bad times after the War was over.
Overall, a pretty decent movie.

Overall, a pretty decent movie. Thanks! There's an older series that's was on PBS many years ago. It first introduced me to him. He was a communist, even if they couldn't prove he joined the party. But I don't think he was a Soviet. I think he was a very left wing American. And he paid a price for it.

The movie was not bad but not great either... Showed how much of an Jerk the guy was... cheating on his wives and screwing another guys wife to marrying a commie, hangin with commies, insisting on having a guy in the group who turned out to be a commie spy... The US did right thing, used him and then got rid of him as they should have. They might have needed him for the bomb but he was a liability in the cold war.
The worst thing ever to happen to cops is the personal video recorder... Now people can see the truth

Why would you go see a movie about a Commie? He invented the A-Bomb, it won the war for the US.....whether he was a POS or not. The lead character is a great actor Cillian Murphy, does a great job in Peaky Blinder series on Netflix.....No, John Wayne isn't in it.

Why would you go see a movie about a Commie? Because itโs arguable that Oppenheimerโs ability to grasp the technicalities of a vast array of issues, and lead a team of some of the smartest individuals on the planet, shortened WWII significantly? If memory serves, he completed his undergraduate degree in physics in two years, and his doctorate in a single year. When Oppenheimer defended his doctoral thesis, it was the professor that was relieved when the defense was finished.

If you have care to give a quick thumbs up/down? You should do the Barbenheimer double feature. Variety called the phenomenon "the movie event of the year". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbenheimer

shortened WWII significantly? I read somewhere that the miliary made up something like 1/2 million Purple Hearts in 1945 for the planned invasion of Japan. They weren't needed and we haven't made any more since. All Purple Heart medals issued since were left over from WW-2 and we still have 120,000. I can't verify how accurate that claim is, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is true. At any rate not having to invade Japan saved a lot of lives. My dad would have probably been there. He was late to the party in Europe getting sent as a replacement in January 1945 during the Battle of the Bulge. They sent the guys who had been there the longest home 1st. Dad stayed in Europe for a year after the war and no doubt would have been sent to Japan if not for the bomb.
Most people don't really want the truth.
They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.

Now I want a well written biography about JRO. While itโs not a biography of JRO, โThe Making of the Atomic Bombโ is a biography of the entirety of the bomb itself. Itโs very well written and has a great deal of detailed information in it. The author is Richard Rhodes. Itโs the best, most informative book that Iโve read on the subject. He also discusses much about the individual people who contributed to the effort of the bombโs creation and ultimate use.
Every day on this side of the ground is a win.

Why would you go see a movie about a Commie? They trusted him to build the bomb and bring WWII to an end after 50,000,000 people had been killed. I wouldn't trust you to take out the trash. Just sayin...

The book certainly portrayed a complicated, troubled, and politically uneven person. I haven't seen the movie yet, but look forward to it...although 3 hours seems a bit much.

"Before the Fallout" From Marie Curie to Hiroshima by Diana Preston
pretty good summary I read a few years ago.
not an area/topic I know anything about, so can't say yea or nay on content.
was a good read, and pulled together multiple threads for me.
was for sale in the Titan Missile Museum s of Tucson, where I found it.
...Actually Sycamore, you are sort of right....
