I purchased a naked Colt. Finally getting around to getting some furniture for it. But I am stumped.
My 6920 has a collar spun onto the threads. This collar has fingers all the way around the outside and the buffer tube runs right through one of the grooves between the fingers. I cannot figure out how to get that collar off so I can install a forearm.
Do I knock the little roll pin out in front of the buffer tube to allow it to slide forward?
I can send a pic to anyone that could maybe help and needs a better explanation.
TIA

When you say buffer tube do you really mean gas tube?

Yes you need to remove the roll pin/gas tube, then you can remove the barrel nut.

The collar you describe sounds like the barrel nut. Is there a spring loaded ring surrounding the barrel nut?

You will then need to remove the gas block, in order to get the barrel nut off the barrel.

Holy fuçk, this has to be a troll post.
If it's not, you are talking about the barrel nut that has splines, and the gas tube.
You have two options. You can stick on some drop in handguards, which will not require the removal of anything except the existing handguards. Or, option 2 is you pull the tube and the barrel nut and then install whatever you want.
I'm assuming it's got an A2 FSB, so that'll be added fun figuring out which direction you want to take that in the course of your installation.
