I have always liked the look of Timber Frame homes. If we find some property we like we might have a timber frame home built for us, although I suspect it would likely cost more than we can afford.
Still, I plan to look into them as an option. Do any of you here have experience with timber frame homes? Does anyone know of a good company that would operate in my area? Basically we are looking for land between about London and Alma here in Arkansas.
I like the modular home idea that I started a thread on a while back but not all banks will provide a mortgage and some developers won't allow them.

I have no experience with them but I like the look and did some price comparisons.
I looked at the timber frame cabin kits sold by Jamaica Cottage Shop in Vermont but when I did a price breakdown they ended up looking to be a lot more money and hassle than a typical dimensional lumber cabin.

I sold Timber Frame homes for a company for a couple years but not in your area. You may end up shopping outside your area and have the frame components shipped to your site for assembly.
They are beautiful and extremely strong homes, but you pay for the privilege of owning one. Depending on how large your home will be and what the layout you like works out with the frame you can save a substantial amount of money. Complicated frames cost much more in material, cutting, and assembly and take more interior finishing. Also, porches add substantially to the cost of the Timberframe as roof structure members are the most expensive portion of any Timberframe structure.
One other thing- there are lots of "unethical" players in Timberframe suppliers. Do your due diligence before plunking down your money. If you can't afford a Timberframe- and most people can't- you can have a lot of Timberframe type touches added to a standard stick framed home for little additional cost in most cases. Things like entry ways, overlooks and frames at large dormers, interior great room frames or false beams, etc...

I've cut a few and worked on many, I'm a pretty big fan especially when teamed with SIPS panels. Find a TF guild member in your area and start planning!

Gorgeous homes (typically). A lot harder to modify than stick-built so be sure you build it how you want it the first time. I timber-framed a barn and while I love the result if I were doing it over I’d just use treated 6x6 or whatever. By the time I clad it in 1x12 cedar custom-cut board and batten siding, and put a gambrel metal roof on it, and floored the upstairs in car decking, I’d spent enough $$ that the saving on the framing seemed a bit silly (I cut hardwood logs from my own land and soaked the bottom foot of them in JASCO).

Are you talking, Post, and beam? The old saying is all Timber Frame is Post and Beam, but not all Post and Beam is Timberframe....

A small, simple house can be built with a joined timber frame and R panels for about the same cost as a stick frame. The only way to do it is to find a good local builder. You need to buy the land first.

You need to buy the land first. In most cases it is a chore to find a good local builder that knows how to build a timber frame home. I know of a house in a rural setting that has that internally , yet the outside of the house is all brick . Pretty interesting house.

Here's a place in Missouri. https://midwesttimberframes.com/contact/I have no idea how far he travels to do business but I have been in his shop and seen the bents while they were being built and they were of excellent craftsmanship. The frame is the part that requires the most skill to build. I would think after it was put up a good local contractor could install the SIP panels and whatever roofing and exterior you'd like.

Open the link I posted above and you will see old school timber frame work. Near art.

There was this one time at band camp I built a timber frame barn..... SWEET! 50k board feet? Big coin! That ridge beam must have been an amazing set.
