A while back I was considering something "different" to hunt with. I narrowed it down to 8mm-08 and the 338-08. I eventually went with the 338-08 since I had a large supply of 200gr 338 Hornady SPs on hand from my 338WM. Shortly after I sent my REM 600 off to the gunsmith, Federal announced the 338Federal. DANG IT! At least my barrel is still marked 338-08. I understand wanting something different. Post pics!

8x51...I like it. Makes as much sense as anything else...
I thought about this one briefly when reboring my RSI turned out to be impossible because the muzzle diameter was too small for a .338 bore. .323 would have just squeaked by. In reality, a 180 gr .323 TSX at 2700-2800 fps would kill anything that walks in NA, very nicely indeed.
So I want to hear about it when you get it built!

hey muledeer, Got the fz die done.I used a Lee 308 fz die set. Ran a 308 case thru it with an 8mm expander installed. the neck tension is .005 undersized. bullet fits nice an tight. next step it to have the ring cut down just behind the threads. then we'll rethread all the way to the end. Cut off .260" from chamber to make it .015" under length. I'lluse a 243 finish reamer to set the chamber size up to the neck area. the chamber will then be 8mm-308 size. I'm using a 8mm x 57 barrel in 29" length. will make a good pig gun. I'll then use it in my 243 bull barrel rifle. Willhave another switch barrel gun. I like it!!! Will post pics after new years. Sounds good to me, definately post pictures. Mine's bigger though ... 375/08. Clicking over at 2350fps with 225gr Hornady and AR2207 (H4198) at the moment and am awaiting x100 custom 195gr projectiles to arrive in the mail. Later on its load development with 235gr Woodleigh and 235gr Speer. Early next year I'm having a 458AR built, then its a Rem700 switch-barrel with a few barrels in 308 based cartridges. Cheers... Con
