I have aged into the need for red dots on my handguns mad None of mine are 'optics ready'. I'm wondering about the dovetail mounts designed to replace the rear sight. Does anyone have any long-term experience with durability of these mounts? I'm aware that they move the sight higher relative to the bore but I'm more concerned with how secure they are and if they loosen up over many rounds or somehow affect the life of the optic. For reference, these would be mostly on 45acp and 10mm pistols.

Trying to decide if these mounts are a viable alternative to having the slides milled. Thanks!

Here's my G20 with Trijicon dovetail base and RMRcc (this is the concealed carry version not the standard RMR). Haven't shot it enough to comment on long term durability but it seems very solid.

Shot the upper left hand group for final sight in - rested over range bad at 25 yds. Load: 14.6gr AA9 with 165gr Zero JHP (picked at random ie no load development for sighting in RMR).

This is the only dovetail mount I have and like huntsman it on a .22. Works very well.

These two are on EGW mounts. The 1911 gets carried daily, the 629 only while hunting. Never any problems with their durability, blue locktite is your friend here.

I put one on my Kimber 1911, I think it was from EGW, for a Holosun 507C. Hardest part was getting the old sight pressed out. Base and optic have performed well but I only have about 100 rounds of 45 Super through it so far. Was instrumental in taking a decent doe last fall, I don't think I would have been able to take that shot with iron sights. The new 460 Rowland barrel should give it a good workout.

If your 1911 has a Novak dovetail pattern which they tell me is pretty standard for lots of the dovetails, I have a 1911 EGW base plate and screws for a Trijicon RMR red dot that I'd send you n/c. Travis bought my RMR Type 2 because I've gone back to iron sights on that handgun. The plate worked fine to see if I liked using a red dot, which I didn't.

Windfall, I certainly appreciate the offer but mine doesn’t have those type of sights. Thank you!

Okay, thanks for getting back on that. Not that it takes up much room on top of my gun safe, I don't need it, so maybe someone else does.
