local shop has a pretty nice 300 sav. 99 in a black case, purple material inside with a piece missing (just the cloth) with a 410 barrel. looks like a nice vintage set-up. I was wondering what the going rate was for one of these, is there a way to tell if it's put together. they're asking $2000, tax would add a bit more. is that ball park? thank you.

Take some pictures, if you can , because that way it's much less of a mystery. Let the gye selling it show you how to change the barrel so you can see if it fits or not ,and also learn how to do it. Look for serial numbers assembly codes and proof marks that are the same on all parts. Figure out what you're buying ,then offer him what you think it's worth to you .

It's in the ball park. 410 barrel should be fitted to the rifle. If it has the original handle on the case...that is a plus.

Thanks guys, I know it's almost impossible to judge prices without seeing, but ballpark is good enough. I didn't notice any markings on the barrel other than 410. the rest of the 300 SAv rifle was pretty nice with slight wear and a nicer Lyman (i think) tang sight. I'll see if they have room to deal.

The 410 barrel should have a one or two line address on top and 24".

Serial number would be nice to know.
