Looks like old downtown Lahaina is gone, it was pretty neat old harbor town. With 60 MPH winds it caught them by surprise. Video in link

The fire is awful! Pretty much the whole town is gone. I have some friends that live there and we haven't heard from them yet. Hoping and praying they all made it out. That place has been wiped off the map!

Sad to here. I have fond memories there as a kid, and taking our family there a few times.

My sister was telling me this as she is supposed to go to the Maui invitational. I was reading and people were running into the ocean to escape the fire.

That video looks pretty bad, with 60 MPH winds chit happens fast. When you live on an island there is no calling in help.

They routinely burn the sugar cane fields there. I wonder if they got out of hand.

I read it started by cars parked on dry grass. Hot catalytic converter? Not positive on that at all.

Fires in maui. Interested to see the cause as some news stations have said it was downed powerlines but locals are saying people were lighting the bathrooms on fire along the beach. There have been a rash of arson fires in the previous months in hawaii.

They're just trying to get rid of the stink left over from the last time Obozo went surfing there!

That would be a seasonal thing I guess.
