Kind of an informal poll here. Wanting to replace a factory sporter barrel on a M700 rifle. I've used Pac-Nor and Lilja on a couple of rifles a CD Mauser and M70. Then bought Savage Prefits from several makers for wildcats McGowen, X-Calbier, and Bison.
I would prefer stainless and cut rifled. I'm willing to go CM to keep weight down as I know stainless with cut rifling can be an issue with some makers and light contours. Contour isn't a concern as I'm basically using a chassis (Greyboe Trekker). I'm going with an 18" barrel and chambered in .308 Win. I would like to keep barrel weight to a minimum as well.
So what maker and contour is your huckleberry?

What's your budget? On a factory Rem, I lean towards a Remage to remove the wait times associated with a 'smith.

In this application what advantage do you expect to realize from cut rifling?

I'd like to keep it under $800 for the barrel. In this application what advantage do you expect to realize from cut rifling? I hear good things, and have never tried one.

Delivery time might be more important than cost. Last one I got was 9 months backorder from Brux.
I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all. Jack O'Connor

Well it isn't exactly a light rifle now. It's almost 10 lbs all up with an 18" sporter contour. I just dont want to make it heavier. Delivery time might be more important than cost. Last one I got was 9 months backorder from Brux. I've waited longer for my suppressors. It isn't my only rifle.

I have been very satisfied with my Kreigers (4), Obermyers (3) and Rock River (1). I expect all of the name brand cut rifled barrels are good these days, with the most important part being the fitting and chambering.
Brux used to be willing to do slim SS contours and my Rock River #2 5R 6.5-06 is SS. Kreigers has a listing of in stock barrels on their website that is worth checking.

I know the barrels I would never use.
I have Lilja, Brux, Hart, Shilen, Benchmark. I have no qualms with any of these.
By the way, in case you missed it, Jeremiah was a bullfrog.

Blake Rifle and Barrel here in Phoenix makes 6 groove cut barrels and they may have a reasonable lead time. One of their barrels just won the F class world championships. You can call Katie there and she can give you a lead time. Just another option.

I'd look at bugholes.com and you can order a cut rifled barrel in a remage setup for under $800. Tools to install may be around $150 but you have them for life at that point. Criterion barrels while not cut-rifles shoot extremely well and can be had for around $400.

My last 3 barrels have been Bartleins and all have shot very well.
The only potential issue is they won't do SS in their lighter contours. For a hunting rifle I'd probably press the easy button and send it to PacNor. I had them do a Rem M7 in .260 a couple years ago and it shoots very well.

Have about 20 tubes from Douglas, Hart, Rock, Brux and Krieger, Unless your building a bench/target gun I am not sure there is really all that much difference. I would buy the one that makes the contour you want in the material you want and can get it to you in the time you need it.
