What's it great for? Bought a sealed 8lb jug at a yard sale for too little to pass up, now just gotta figure out what I'm going to use it in. My main rifles I load for are .300WSM, .300 RUM, .35 Whelen, and .257 Roberts. My quick look online says the WSM.

Interesting. I'd have thought it was on the slow side for that one.

It's very good in 270 Winchester with 130 grain bullets.

My main rifles I load for are .300WSM, .300 RUM, .35 Whelen, and .257 Roberts. My quick look online says the WSM. Should work great in the WSM. It is almost the same thing as the now discontinued AA3100. I've been messing around with that in my 25-06, 7mm Rem mag, and a buddies 300 win mag. IMR4831 will work well in a lot of cartridges like 270 winchester, 30-06, and even 338 Lapua magnum, in a pinch. Load manuals will tell you what you want to know. One of my favorite loads with 190gr Hornady interlocks was with IMR4831 powder. It produced very good results. You don't hear very much about IMR4831 because it's overshadowed by the more temp stable H4831, which everyone likes. If you bought it cheap enough, it will be good powder to have on hand. Good luck with it.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

.270 Win is what I use it in. I haven’t really tried it in anything else, but I use H4831SC quite a bit in several cartridges. If H4831 will work, IMR4831 should as well.

Use it in .300 Win with 150 and 168 gr TTSX. Also .375R with 270, 285, 300 gr.

IMR 4831 is good for the 06 type cartridges. It’s plenty good for others like your Roberts. It’s kind of a common powder with decent results for lots of different cartridges like the ones others here have mentioned. You will definitely find a use for it somewhere.

I like it in my .25-06 with 100’s and 85’s. It’s a tick faster than H-4831, and a tick slower than 4350, so I’d think it’s pretty versatile, but a .25-06 is the only caliber where I’ve used it.

I use it in the 25-06 and 7mm Rem Mag. I have used it in 300 Win Mag when I had one.

It was one of the few available powders recently. I guess people didn't realize how handy it is. I use it in my 243. I've used it in my son's 30-06 with 180gr .

It will do fine in the .257R and the 300WSM. I think it's a bit too slow for the .375.

It's very good in 270 Winchester with 130 grain bullets. And, if ~ 2800 fps(22" Bbl.) is acceptable with the 150 gr. bullet, it is outstanding as well. Go-to load for decades, until the temp stability of the Hodgdon variety enticed me over. GR

When the .300 WSM came out my son in law bought a Winchester M70 Featherweight. He didn't reload and asked my to work up a load for him. He gave me the data he got from a coworker and after checking in several manuals did his work up and loaded ammo. I forget the exact charge as I gave him the notes after teaching him to load his own. Anyway he used Winchester brass and WLRM primers, 165 gr. Ballistic tips and IMR 4831. The load shot well, groups were good and brass life was good. IMR 4831 might be marginally too fast for the .300 R.U.M. but I've never worked with that cartridge. PJ

I like it in 6.5x55. Good in .270 WCF too.

For the 270W and 130’s I have never found anything better than IMR4831

No one has said it completely, but it'll work just fine in all the cartridges that you listed...
As Beretz said, it will work well in a 243 and on up... it would be a little slower for the 375 some one mentioned, but it'll still work well in it..
Know some guys who have used it in a 22.250 with heavier bullets...
its always an accurate powder regardless what it is fed into.

Never had good luck with Imr 4831. Could never get the accuracy & velocity node to come together. Lord knows I have tried.
By the way, in case you missed it, Jeremiah was a bullfrog.
