I'm still using mine. If I wanted to do long range hunting I suppose a 7mm PRC or something else with a 1/8 twist would be better, but I don't normally shoot at game much past 400 yards and don't see much real advantage to a PRC inside 500 yards.
For long range shooting the twist and bullets seem to be the most important factors, so the actual cartridge is less critical. A short beltless design with a 30 degree shoulder is nice, but my rifle, a Rem 700 action with a Lilja barrel and an MPI stock still shoots very well.
I'd say weight is more significant to me, and I tend to use my .280 more than my 7mm Rem Mag because it weighs a pound less.

I have one too--the only 7mm rifle I've kept after starting to "downsize" my collection after owning and hunting with a couple dozen rifles from 7mm-08 to 7mm STW. The 7mm RM works fine on a wide range of big game, whether in North America or elsewhere--and you can also buy factory ammo just about everywhere in the world, where it's possible to buy ammo.
In fact, one of the African PHs I've hunted with uses one to cull Cape buffalo--and like many usually shoots them behind the shoulder, not in the head. But have also hunted with other PHs who've done the same thing with the .30-06 and .300 Winchester Magnum. They all work if you put the right bullet in the right place.

Quite fond of it, like the 7.0 L big blocks from the Big 3 around when it was introduced. I'd be inclined to find a 1:8 twisted 7rm at least as desirable an L71 from the same time period.

Mine is my travel rifle. Would use it on anything in North America with complete confidence. Seriously thinking about having another one built in case my first one gets tired.

The 7 Rem mag has been my go to cartridge since the mid 1970s. It worked great then and still does.

I sort of miss mine, a Ruger tanger, 2 1/2 -8 Vari-x III. FOR years it was my primary deer rifle and probably killed more deer than anything I used before or since. It went in the first wave of reductions, but only as far as one of my sons.

I had a couple and liked them until I bought a chronograph. I'd read years ago that the 7 mag was just a loud 270. That was my conclusion. Not that the 270, 280, or 30-06 are bad choices and neither is a 7mm Rem mag. But I was never able to get the 7 mag to shoot fast enough to do anything I couldn't do with the other 3.
Most people don't really want the truth.
They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.

41Rem: I have one - what say you? Mine will be with me for the "duration". Long live the 7m/m Remington Magnum (and Nosler 160 grain Partitions). Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

I have two, and really like the cartridge. Thinking of taking a 7RM with 175 Partitions with me to Africa next June…

Yep, it works great with 160 Partitions! As does the 270 win with 150 partitions. Just stirring the pot.......

I have one. It's a Ruger #1B and part of my Ruger #1 collection. I've only killed paper with it. PJ

Owned a very early Number 1 I bought from my brother briefly, but the cartridge is overkill hereabouts. I borrowed his Brown Precision custom one year and killed my first WV whitetail with it. Blew a big burping hole through its chest, but it walked another 50 feet or so like I had missed. I was about to give it another poke when it rolled over. Just one of those things that happens if you shoot deer long enough.
I’d probably not buy one now with other modernized rounds available, unless a compelling rifle jumped out in front of me. OTOH, I suspect it’s still World Cartridge, and ammunition is likely available in far off places, which might be handy for those who hunt abroad. That ain’t me, though.
Certainly, there’s nothing wrong with its ballistics, even the “degassed”, modern ones.
What fresh Hell is this?

I have a 700 KS in 7mag for sale here in Canada. It's in VG condition but very little interest. Seems some folks don't see it as a good choice anymore.
I'd keep it but have other similar rifles with all the kit to load for them and not much for magnums either way. I wish it was a 30-06.
