I’ve been to a bunch of his concerts and celebrated my 50th bday at his concert in Orange beach, Al. years ago. I still enjoy the music but not as much. I’ve heard most all of it. His daughter and band member’s (Mike Utley) son got married here in town at Mac McAnally’s house. (Another band member). Extremely talented crew that have all done well selling the dream of loafing and enjoying the beach. In reality they are all workaholics!
He was in Durham, CA last year. One of my customers breeds King Charles Spaniels and he bought one from her when his died.
She was in contact with his daughter the whole time all secretive and stuff. He's not coming she kept saying. Said she barely recognized him and that he looked pretty wore out.
Screw you! I'm voting for Trump again!
Ecc 10:2 The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but that of a fool to the 24HCF.
He's still somewhat of a celebrity around here. His sister has a restaurant and marina right down the street. They know how to make a buck. One of my favorite quotes is the forward in one of his books. "To all my fans out there, always remember I'm spending your money very foolishly".
Back in '92, there was an article about him in a men's magazine that made me a fan.
He owned an old plantation that he managed for quail. Talked about how he'd take his 28 gauge Superposed out in the morning and bag a couple quail for breakfast. A man after my own heart.
A few years later I discovered that he had sold the property and was a big supporter of animal rights organizations.
Lost me as a fan. Gave away his CD's to a coworker. It's hard to understand how a man can change so drastically.
When I retired from the USN I had them play 2 Buffet songs, Son of a Son of a Sailor (my grandfather was in the USN in WWII) and A Pirate Looks at 40. I thought they were apt for wrapping up a career in the USN.
On a side note his sister owns a seafood place in AL called LuLu's. Good place to eat. He stops in there when he is in town and puts on a little show. I saw him twice there, just him, a guitar and a mic singing a few songs and drinking a few beers. Talked to him a few times. Laid back guy.
You get out of life what you are willing to accept. If you ain't happy, do something about it!
There were a bunch of us on a CQ or ACM detachment at Key West years ago and we went to the Margaritaville there for a “cheeseburger in Paradise”. I think it was about 9:00 and in walks Jimmy Buffett and he put on a mini show for about an hour. It didn’t take long for a crowd to form on the sidewalk and out into the street. 😁
NRA Life,Endowment,Patron or Benefactor since '72.
I made enough money to buy Miami, but I pissed it away so fast........
Great song, and his book, A pirate turns 50, was about him turning 50, Good read.
In the book he tells how he would strap a kayak under his float plane, fly around over areas looking for good areas to fish, land, Fish, then put the Kayak back in place and fly back home…..
Thats the way to do it…………
Attended several of his concerts here, oh the memories.

I ran into him several times when he had the plantation north of Tallahassee. He was pretty wore out looking back then. His daughter attended Maclay school just up the road from my house. I’d see him when he’d fly his helicopter to the BBQ restaurant on the Georgia Florida border.
