To have the true peasant experience you need to reside in a hovel and wear the blouse. wink

Agreed.

But I have an unreasonable desire to have a 500 S&W in a lever gun

Buddy of mine has one of those on order. Not sure on delivery time frame, but I'm anxious to see it...

I feel the same, I don't think I will ever use this 500.
I wouldn't be able to feed a 500 S&W. My .454 Casul brass is expensive. I'm sure the 500's are even more so. Not to mention .50 cal bullets.

Brass isn't that bad, $.65 each if you buy 500 cases from Starline.

I can't imagine feeding a big bore revolver without casting your own. There are quite a few molds available from 350-500 gr, and some truly rediculous weights like 700 gr.

I think the 500 makes more sense when cut down to 1.4" as the 500 JRH and are reasonable sized and weight revolver pushing 440 gr 1300 fps.

I was shooting some 275gr Speers and getting some pretty good velocity, my go to load were 300gr. I sold it because I always wanted a six shooter and I felt short changed.

When you sleeping in your tent and something huge with teeth and claws comes after you you would be glad you have a 500.

No I wouldn't. I'd be wondering why I was in a tent in bear country. What bad choices led me to this sad end?

That is the best way to use one of these, by shooting your buddy's/ (LOL).

Too much $$ versus not enough uses for me.

I had three 500's at one time. They are just to big and clunky for me. Sold them all.
I prefer my Freedom Arms 475 Linebaugh. Plenty of power and not too big.

This is my wife shooting my son's 4" S&W 500. This is her second shot. Her expression might be showing a little anticipation of recoil...

Seems like they’re around $1300-$1600 nowdays. Mine was under $800 out the door when I bought it in 2004. Lots of enjoyment out if it since. Kills critters and targets quite nicely. 😎
