Cast in a purely ethical sense it has lost collector status & value corresponding. "Holes" described as culprit!. The dice roll of early holes as hazarding such pattern not conforming to any modern scope base applications. "Flag" style as to accommodate early small diameter scopes. Sometimes subtly altered as for modern scope clearance. Even more so, bolts not made in contemplation of modern scope aperture-bell dimensions. Alteration "accommodating" such larger scopes bell diameters 'accommodation'.

Nowadays, such semi-rare chambering as 'over pumping value'. Other option as candidate for pristine prewar action swap and then palm-off as original. Barrel underside nomenclature as likely differing from serial number dating, but not of common advertising, descriptor-discrepancy disclosure.

The guns we view today, my thesis, as more likely not original than original where the 'net' of parts and labor yet yields sufficient profit! Most of my rifles, Win & other, the benefit of purchases in 'other times' where such profitability unlikely even of imagination!
My take as the reality of gun collecting today!
Best!

I'm assuming, whats it worth as a shooter, and not a purist rifle. Caliber is right, configuration is right, but not what it would be from the purist perspective. Questions like this can be tough. Almost easier if we say, "hey, I found this! This is what they want", then we can say, "buy it dummy", or, "no way". Or, we get more intel based on what we're told and go from there, lol.
