Is it hard to get brass?

6.5x284 is usually available and can be necked up.

I use 6.5 brass for my 6x284. Graf and Sons has Norma and Nosler 6.5 brass in stock at this time.

284 brass shows up occasionally, just have to keep a look out and act fast.

I have been told there is a slight difference in case diameters at the 0.200 datum line for both .284 and 6.5-284 cases depending on which "standard" the brass was manufactured to. My .284 rifle came with a pretty good supply of .284 Super X brass and necked up 6.5-284 Hornady brass and both shoot well.

The .284 is an interesting "artifact" and just that. It's rare in numbers of rifles chambered. The "duh" rationale as lack of its acceptance. If you're a collector it "presumably" has some particular value predicated upon that very "rarity" and frankly that's legitimate. I'm a rifle collector inclusive o the Win 88 which I do appreciate! Every other 88 `chambering yet makes sense to me. The .284 NOT. For those of us collectors who strongly prefer 'economic shootability', it's a no-go. I see Win very much a shooter! With 88 values, placing the .284 at a premium, moved to "artifact", utility to me failed. What it does pass is the "foible" test... I don't know why I like it, it doesn't make good sense, but I just want it. I have more than my share already and defend such preference too! Just not this one.

My artifact kills a lot of deer. A lot of guys in F Class shoot it. Not ready for the grave just yet.

.284 w/ Bergers

It isn’t too hard to find, got mine putting an add in the classifieds here. I load the 120 Barnes, does the trick on deer and pigs. My 284 is a 99, becoming my favorite rifle. I hope my Sako’s don’t read that!

I wish they had bypassed it and given us the 7mm-08 a couple decades sooner.

I know a guy that has about 30 boxes of factory ammunition to sell. Buy that and you will have no worries about brass.

Winchester brass is fully tolerable for a 284 hunting rifle.

Being as I'm in Alaska I can't get ammo shipped here at a reasonable price.

While out and about last weekend, I saw a couple hundred pieces of brass. Gods way of torturing me, as I’ve been eyeballing a pre 64 model 70 chambered in an oddball 25-284. However, I also saw a pre 64 30-06 for $700.00 that day as well. So, yes, you can find brass if you know where/how to look for it.

Nosler/Norma sucks ass,Lapua does nice things,but I mainly feed my herd of 6-284's,25-284's and 284's with W/W. Hint.

That being said,all as a whole,are an EASY pass Today. Hint.................

I have 2x 88 rifles and 2x 88 carbines. The 3" longer rifles seem like a more logical choice of platforms for the 284 than the carbines do to me, while the reverse seems logical for the 358.

If you don't reload, the Winchester PP 150 grain factory load produces the same performance as their 150 grain PP load for the 308, which, from my POV makes the 284 little more than an expensive to buy and feed 308.

As a lefty, I like savage 110s. Picked up a 110D in 270 last spring. Will be usitit this fall.
Got a 110CL this week. 30-06. Already have a real nice older 110 in 30 aught so will do a barrel change on the new one.
Could do 280 but would prefer to try the 284.

I've been kicking around a .284 for a couple decades, but when it really comes down to it, there isn't anything it can do that I can't with a 7mm-08.

That doesn't mean that about once a year I don't start thinking about a .284 again!
