After a long search i finally found a C-Prefix 308 in Varmint Special. Starting to get ready to load for it and am wondering if it is 10 or 12 twist. Have found both in my search. Anyone know for sure?

The best way to know for sure is to check your rifle. Fit a tight fitting patch to a jag. Insert it into bore. Mark the top of the cleaning rod with a pen or whatever and measure it's distance to either the muzze or the back of the action dependin on which end you insert it, make sure it is at least 13" away. Push in the cleaning rod until the the mark does 1 complete rotation and is back on top. Measure the distance travelled and you have your answer.
Internet analysis: 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact Fools & fanatics are always so certain and wise people are always so questioning

Determine when it was made by the assembly date code on the left side of the barrel just forward of the receiver and once you know that look up the pdf for the Remington catalog for that year. The assembly date code is typically 2 alpha characters that indicate the month and year. The 12 months are represented, in order, by the letters BLACKPOWDERX.

I believe all Rem 700 308 were 1 in 12, and so is 30-06 Varmint Special (old), Rest of Rem 700 30-06's were 1 in 10.

I was unaware that they ever made a varmint special in 30-06. I know they made a 25-06.
