Lots of advice from people who never lived there. Stay away from the places on Central Ave and the interstate off-ramps and you'll be fine. It's like any place, you can't expect to pay $50 a night for a room in a crappy part of town and not amongst a bunch of low-life's.

Only time I was there I stayed on Kirkland Air Force Base “as a visitor “. My son was stationed there. Rumor was Albuquerque has a reputation, founded or not. Just guessing, but close to the collage or airport would be the safest safe bets. I was more at ease in Chinoi Zimbabwe in 2000 than during any of my trips to about anywhere in NM, especially Albuquerque.

We left after my boy of ten found a body, dead from overdose on the ditch bank. We initially lived in the North East heights. Then moved to the south valley. There was less crime there.

Went and saw buddy that lives in Rio Rancho, went to church with them in downtown Ab. Buddy has always belonged to a group from church that do a lot of tactical stuff together, couldn’t believe how many were packing at church, very organized fellowship, I started going to Ab. In seventy’s it’s always had bad parts, just more now.

Used to frequent ABQ. It's bad, but there are definitely some redeeming qualities, the food being #1. Monroe's, Sadie's, Rudy's, and Dion's come to mind just off the top of my head. Yes, I am aware Dion's is a chain.
As of where to stay, I would stay outside the city. You left out M'tucci's, and several others. Tom

nice rooms and a good eating places near by. and the casino has a place to eat. Good advice. True. Lots of advice from people who never lived there. Stay away from the places on Central Ave and the interstate off-ramps and you'll be fine. It's like any place, you can't expect to pay $50 a night for a room in a crappy part of town and not amongst a bunch of low-life's. Really good advice in ANY large city - and very true in ABQ PS - it's KirTland AFB - "T" instead of "K". We lived there, circa 1980, and East Central was an absolute pit - even then. Prostitutes, drugs, gangs, etc. I feel qualified to speak as we lived 4 blocks from Central. AFAIK, the only changes have been for the worse. Our son, 1 brother, and my sister live in ABQ - daughter lives in Rio Rancho.

All of ABQ, including residential areas, has roach problems, and, yes, they're becoming "woke" with a vengeance. I believe it's imported from Santa Fe, which we used to call "San Francisco East".

We stayed at Route 66 campground and ate at Route 66 casino. We did not get our throat cut.
