Third generation undertaker here. Got some bad news for the undertaker haters; they're just like everybody else, some saintly, some crooked as hell and mostly just regular folks making a living. Most try to get folks to make a plan before they go and I personally think that is a compassionate thing to do for your loved ones.
I loved the duck decoy idea which makes me think I'd like to go into the butt stocks of some of my favorite shotguns and the grandkids can take me hunting.

I remember about 30 years ago when congress was talking about a law to allow people to buy a casket wherever they wanted and also to be able to make their own. The funeral business's big thing was making sure people got quality and that bad things could happen with home made caskets. About the same time there was a news article spread all over the country about a big church funeral. As the pall bearers were carrying the HIGH QUALITY COMMERCIAL casket down the church steps, the bottom fell out and the body dumped out on the steps. It was followed by a huge lawsuit and almost immediately the Fed Trade Commission came out with a new regulation allowing home made ones. They allow them with 3 stipulations: it has to be strong enough to hold the body it has a length limit so it will fit inside a standard vault it must be made to be conveniently carried by pall bearers
That part about the vault is to appease cemeteries. Many of them require either a vault or a steel casket so the ground won't sink as it rots, leaving them with a hole to level. The FTC doesn't say you have to have a vault, only that it must fit inside one.
