When do the migrating geese usually flyover in your area? They should be heading south later this month or early October.

They are marshalling in the Winnipeg area as we speak.

in ND we've got a significant resident population that's hatched here. The "migrators" come through when the weather forces them out of Canada. Usually the 2nd-3rd week of Nov we get an enormous pulse of migrating waterfowl that lasts 1-3 weeks depending on our weather and hunting pressure. The most memorable mass-waterfowl migrating sights I've witnessed have all happened during our firearms deer season.

We're outside of the major flyways but we do have a lot of geese wintering here. A lot of them are year round. We get almost all Canadas. You rarely see snows here.

We have a resident local flock here, but sometime around early to mid October, we get the big V flyover flocks. One large flock usually lands and resides in open rolling scrub areas for several weeks before continuing south.

I've been watching flyovers since early August. There is an impoundment about 2.5 miles to the east (roost) and I'm surrounded by wheat pastures (feeding grounds). It's not unusual to have thousands of geese pour into a wheat pasture a quarter mile east of me. With those numbers, they can strip wheat pasture right down to bare ground in no time.

Louisiana we start seeing them late October in my area. They always preclude a cold front. When you see them passing over we are due a temperature drop soon. The geese staying ahead of frozen water. We don’t see nearly as many it seems as when I was a kid. I think more just stay in Arkansas, no reason to keep flying south if they have food and open water
