Off The Top of Your Head estimate- The lgs is dangling a 1899b in 25-35 that has a 20 inch barrel. It is roughly 85%. What would be a going price and what would be break out the checkbook?

It'd depend on if the barrel looked factory, or looked cut. And sometimes you have to go with your gut on figuring that out.

I have records (serial number/model)on about 500 of the three scarcer Winchester calibers in Savage 1899s. Only one is a B short rifle and it is a 32-40. If originally a 38-55 20 inch octagon barrel it is extremely rare. Look carefully for signs of barrel being shortened. Call Cody for verification if you are able.

B 38-58 22" A 25-35 20"checked Engraved

This must mean these rifles have a crescent rifle buttplate and are only 20 or 22 inches barrels.
The backsight distance to the front of the receiver on a rifle is usually more than a carbine ( I think ).
