I have just cast and sized a bunch of bullets. I put them in a small container and coated them with Lee liquid alox until there is a nice thin gold coating that is sticky. I put them, base down, on waxed paper and wonder if I have done this the correct way.

How long does it take liquid alox to dry before the bullets can be loaded? Is this very thin golden coat what I should have?

Since nobody provided input I decided to do a little testing and post it here so people can benefit from it. I cast up about two hundred 148 grain .357 bullets and started sizing them. I could barely force them through the sizing tool so I added a single drop of liquid alox and tumbled the bullets in a plastic container. After that they just slid through the sizing die without any problems. My conclusion is that it takes very little of this material to provide lubrication. I shot some of my first .45 loads and they were fine.

How did you tumble your lead bullets without damaging them? What kind of tumbler?

Rolly, Most people use a empty 1lb butter container, place about 20 bullets in it and squirt the liquid lube on then cover and shake it for 10 seconds or so. Even pure lead bullets won't be damaged. They just need to be dried overnight....Geo

I am using a butter container as suggested, but I find it works well with about six drops for 200 bullets. Shake and roll the little tub and it coats the bullets. It takes very little alox lube to be successful. If there is the slightest stickniess it is just about right.

Put them on some wax paper for a couple of days and they are ready to use.
