very nice!! Kansas sandhills.. are you talking like west of Hutchinson ? like Pratt , Greensburg ...? that one time in my life I lived at St John for about a year... never seen nothing that good at that time there didn't seem to be many mulees around or I wasn't under that impression. but this has been over 30 years ago. I lived basically in the corner of Pratt Stafford and Edwards county..
been doing a little Google work hell they're showing a slight elk population in the west southwest region. along with pronghorn and mule deer in the entire western part of the state... I guess a lot can change in 30 years though I did see some pronghorn west of me when I live there and whitetail don't remember ever seeing a mule deer.. Nearest town is Lakin. I hunted here last year and had a bull elk maybe 150 yards to my left when I shot my deer. He stood there for a few minutes after the shot then trotted off. had to look that up. I see that's on West of Dodge City so you were quite a bit West of where I used to live in a bit north. that makes sense. I just didn't realize that that area was still considered the Sandhills. and absolutely shocked out there now.. You aren't thinking of the Flint Hills that are more east are you? no I drove to the Flint hills coming into Wichita from the East several times. that's a pretty cool country in itself. I just didn't realize the sandhill went that far west I guess never really thought about. every time I pass through the Flint hills you've always like you want to see an Indian on a horse or some Buffalo for some of the hills in there Pretty cool country.
The last time that bear ate a lawyer he had the runs for 33 days!

Ed; Holy smokes that's a nice buck sir!
Hearty congratulations.
It looks like he's got his winter coat already but hasn't rubbed the velvet at all which is interesting.
That'd be a dream buck for me, thanks for sharing him with us.

Dwayne Dwayne, While we were clodding through the brush to recover him a younger buck ran off and we crossed where he had just rubbed everything off clearly in the brush. No trees, hence white antlers as well.

Ed; Thanks for the reply. That's wild how whatever they rub on shows isn't it? Some of the Saskatchewan whitetail we had on the farm had much whiter antlers than our BC bucks. We had a pretty decent buck hanging around our place for a few seasons - he got shot in town last fall so I've heard - but he seemed to rub later than the other smaller bucks too. Maybe the big boys have nothing to prove or aren't in the same rush as the younger ones? Thanks again for sharing him Ed, that'd be my perfect mulie buck as I like a bit of extra points and stickers somehow. All the best in the rest of your hunts this fall. Dwayne

P.S. How didja cut yer beak? Throwing a 315 gr bullet at 2800 fps. LOL. What's odd is it on the left side of my nose and I am right handed. A bit of twist under recoil it seems.

Congrats. My boy shot a whitetail in southeast Kansas a week ago Friday night during the youth season that only had some remnants of its velvet left.
