Great job man. Lowes has a flat clear coat that will knock the shine down.

That is outstanding work. That's a right sexy looking rifle.

Thanks men! I’ll have to get some of that Lowes flat clear coat to try. I think if an old hick like me that might have 3-5% artistic talent can get lucky enough to end up with a usable pattern, I’d say most people are selling themselves short. (And I might even be outkicking my coverage on that 3-5% talent claim)🙃

Doc,
I like it a lot!
First, I’m thinking about getting a light wright rifle. How do you like the Kimber Hunter and how does it shoot for you!
Second, can you give us the steps that you took to get the rifle painted?

Slidellkid,
I love how the rifle carries and handles…and how it looks now. I haven’t done any load development specific to it, but have an H414 load that my first Bob(‘76 tanger)shoots fairly well, and it does well enough for me in this one to not get cramped up over it.
Stock painting went as follows…
Take out barreled action. Tape off buttpad because I’m too energy efficient(read lazy) to remove it. Tape off barrel/action channel. Scotch brite pad the stock to rough it up a bit. Clean stock with denatured alcohol. Glove up and begin. I sprayed an adhesion promoter on it following it’s directions. Then I placed the mesh boat cover over the stock, cinching it up with clothespins to keep it snug. Start painting. Used oil based camo spray paints, O.D. green for the diamond/mesh base pattern. Then I sprayed the black onto a paper plate and dabbed a sea sponge piece in it and put the black blotches on. Same process for the brown blotches. Scotch brite pad again after dried for dulling it down a bit before clear coat finish. (May scrub a bit harder on the next one to dull it more.) Then sprayed 5 coats of matte clear coat to finish it.
It might not be professional quality, but from where I stand it sure looks redneck purdy.😁
