Back in the 80s my grandad was pretty old but he and I still hunted together on occassion. One Christmas, he gave me a Buck 639 Fieldmate. I never carried it that much but loved it nonethesless. I always carried my Queen Cutlery hunting knife my dad gave me.

The next Christmas, I guess my grandad forgot he gave me one the year before because he gave me another. LOL. Man, I loved that old man.

I have one of those, purchased at Fort Benning in the early 90s.

I'll never sell mine, but have you seen what they sell for now? I'm sure it was a $30ish knife in the 80s. Now clean ones will bring $150 - $200.

When I think of "Grandpa knives" this isn't one that would come to mind. I think of a Case trapper or stockman, your grandpa must have liked the Rambo movies! Gotta love Grandpa!

Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.

Well, that could be. He carried a old Ka Bar when we hunted that he had machined his own serations into. He carried an WWII Army machette in his car, that he also gave to me, which I still have. We used to throw tomahawks and smoke Dutchmaster cigars in his back yard, and shoot in his basement. I suspect he just knew a young man starting to do most of his hunting, fishing and camping on his own needed a good knife.

I got the "Grandpa knife" from my dad, that I still carry to this day. Probably mid 70s.
