Where have you been all my life!
I just milled a window in a receiver almost that bad to use in illustrating the kinematics of the 99 lever and bolt operation. I am writing a technical note on that subject because I see so much misunderstanding of how these two components work together. If I ever need a worse specimen, I will keep you in mind...

Sam, I would be very interested in what you observe through that window you milled. Maybe you could get everyone on the same page as to how that final lever travel interacts with the bolt.

I have taken the pictures and am currently working on the writeup. I will share it here and on the FB Club site when done. It is revealing, no pun intended.

We can work a deal. I heard that back in the days before the invention of snake oil they used to use buffalo chips as a gun preservative. Ouch, what's the story behind this one?

I heard that back in the days before the invention of snake oil they used to use buffalo chips as a gun preservative. Ouch, what's the story behind this one? Was told by the seller it was dredged out of a Texas river as they were building a bridge. Bolt's been removed prior to rusting. They scrubbed off enough rust on the barrel to read "SAVAGE REPEATING ARMS", and I can make out the 4 digit serial number. Sad thing? It was a consecutive number 1895 to one of John Wrights. You dream of finding consecutive numbered guns.. then reality lets you down. It's a cute story. No idea if it's true.

I guess it goes to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that wet river mud is not the best medium for storing rifles!
