Since the "Is 380 enough", "semiauto vs pump", "Buckshot vs birdshot vs 5.56 vs slug" debates I realize there's no clear choice for everyone. For home defense I have a Mossberg 500 with an 18" barrel loaded with Federal mini #4 buckshot and a Maverick 88 20" loaded with Federal LE low recoil 00 buckshot, both ("cruiser ready). I have a 4" stainless Rossi 357 mag loaded with 357 110gr HPs handy. I sleep with my S&W M&P 2.0 9mm next to me. There's only me and my wife at home and one small dog. We set the alarm at night. I have hardened the exterior doors.

Basics would be
Good dog
Harden doors windows ect. Steel frame, steel doors
Cameras with alert technology. Firearms up to you.

Carry is the XDS .45 compact, or a new Glock 43x. For the casa, there are choices. Recently it’s been a Mossberg 500C, 20 ga with #2 Buck, and a Quality Hardware .30 carbine with Remington JHP.

My "defensive shotgun" is my Weatherby short barreled turkey gun loaded with 2 3/4" "baby magnum" #2 lead, my bedside handgun is a Smith model 25 .45 Colt with Silvertips, my main downstairs handgun is an M&P .40 and there are other handguns scattered about just in case. Oh yeah, and behind the front door is a Stoeger 28ga SxS loaded with some lead BB loads that hold 25 pellets, just for the hell of it. The wife could actually handle it if need be.

A Ruger PC-9 and a S&W M&P 9 M2.0. All of my shotguns are SxS's so I may look into something there.

Bird shot will do #4 turkey load centered on the head. Better yet just shoot ‘em in the face if possible @ 20 ft it doesn’t spread much. 🤣

In the armoire is a loaded AR (with tactical light) and an extra mag. Against the closet door is an Ithaca Model 37 M&P 12 ga with an empty chamber, and the mag minus one of full (00 buck), more on a shell holder. The nightstand has a loaded Glock 19 with tactical light. Two dogs.

We have no firearms or security measures..…we rely on signs placed around the house perimeter stating, “No Criminal Activities Allowed”! That seems to work quite well in “Blue States”! 😉 memtb
