Kaywoodie, you are correct about some germans. I believe they are somehow lumped in with my second set of unique communities because my DNA path goes over there too, along the lines of my other family members. I’ve had family here since the 1400’s documented so my chit is all over the place to include morman and western settlers.

The only reason I did my DNA is because my great grandmother was a whore and I wanted to verify if my grandpa’s father was who they said he was which he was.

They are resourceful as hell and get chit done while drinking beer. Can live on a diet of sausage, cigarettes, alcohol, coffee, and biscuits.

You're probably thinking of Hebert's Specialty Meats. A lot of places around here do them these days.

Then there are the black Creoles. They're normally Haitian, descended from French and black slaves. They tend to have a higher percentage of black than the US version.

Coonass, or Coon-ass, is a term for a person of Cajun ethnicity.

Some view it as derogatory, however many Cajun embrace the name.

The term is believed to originate from the French word "conasse" meaning a fool.

I grew up watching Justin Wilson’s cooking show on TV. He said that “conasse” came from the Cajun boys that fought in France in WWII. They were thifty and used the services of unregistered French prostitues who were called “conasse”. Their money went further as these ladies were cheaper, being unlicensed. Conasse was bastardized to Coon Ass according to Justin. I like Cajuns, their distinct dialect, love of life, and good cooking! I also enjoy their music and dancing. Let me hear some zydeco. I remember Justin telling of a Mama crawfish showing her babies the world. Came upon a cow and a horse. She explained what they were, what they ate, harmless to crawfish. Next they encountered a Cajun. Mama Crawfish hollered, it’s a Cajun! Run for your life. They’ll eat any damn thing!

I'll bet they were also considerably more likely to carry bugs that you really don't want to take home. None of them are safe but illegal hookers are more likely.

I worked with an old game warden from Avoyelles Parish that joked about the Opelousas Coon-Asses had f---ed the black out of their Negros and turned them yellow.

Sorry bud, Cajuns don’t mix
I will assume you are joking. I know Coon-Asses of Color and down around Dulac and Cocodrie in Terrebonne Parish they are mixed with some swamp Indian. As you get up around Mansura and Ville Platte they are whiter.

I wondered where the Germans of Des Allemands came from. Now I know.

My 6th great grandfather was living in Quebec in 1762 when he went back to France & married a lady in Nantes. They had a son (my 5th great grandfather) & then emigrated to Louisiana right after the Acadians were expelled from Canada. So technically, he wasn't a Cajun since he wasn't part of that particular diaspora. But since my great grandparents were a Bordelon, a Caillouet & a couple of LeBlanc's and all of them spoke French, I guess there's a bit of Cajun blood in there somewhere. Anyway, born & raised in Terrebonne Parish. The only thing south of there is the Gulf of Mexico. My avatar is a dragonfly because they used to constantly hover around the lilies in the backyard when I was growing up. There's some nice things about being down there like being at a camp in Grand Isle & getting up in the morning & boiling crabs from the traps for breakfast. We always seem to have a good time.

1st authentic Cajun soldier I had in a Wpns Sqd in 2/327th long ago.
Holy fuuk....
Thought he had a speech impediment.
Had to tell him to try and prounounce words.
Had several others in units throughout the years.
Some had the speech issue some didn't as bad...

Like the British and American English thing.
2 people separated by the same language.

After being around a Cajun soldier you begin to understand what they are saying.
Over time....

One thing I did notice they can yell out and relay commands in live fire training and in firefights .
In perfectly understandable English.

Kinda like British singers in perfect English in ways.

Strange.......

If you were a coonass you would call those dragon flies mosquito hawks. I have worked with mostly cajuns in the oilfield for 40 years. Almost none of them look like they have black in their ancestry.
