We are clearing a good amout of cedar off our Texas Hill Country property, but are under a burn ban. Brush and small trees are piling up. Big trunks are saved for fence posts. Any personal experience with a chipper that will handle larger loads than an average home use model?
Thanks... BP...

You’re at the will of whatever your renting outfit is willing to rent you. We use Bandits and Vermeers at work. They all require a lot of maintenance, but will eat a tree right up when they are maintained properly. We only use the drum chippers, which feed and chip brush much better than a disc chipper.
There are several pro-tips when it comes to chipping. A novice without an experienced mentor could get hurt a number of different ways.

I would seriously suggest you simply pile up the brush and leave it in the woods. There is a lot of game that loves and needs brush piles to survive. You are sure to at least draw bobcats in Texas brush country!!!!!! No way I would bother to grind it up if I lived there......

Like something an actual tree trimmer would use? ^^^This...Check with your local equipment rental outfits. A 3/4 ton truck should suffice to tow it. Get one with a bigger capacity than what the majority of your work will be to keep it moving. For example mine is a 12" chipper but I try to avoid putting much larger than 8" or 9" pieces in it. Also Auto Feed is a much desired feature for efficient work. Most also dont do real well with real small stuff and especially vines as they tend to wrap up. Wear ear and eye protection and dont lean or stick arms into the feed area! You can get ALOT done in one day with the proper equipment.
