I am new to the caliber as I have always been a 45 colt lever man. I am going to use to for my woods rifle during deer season this year. I have 210 grain Remington jacketed hollow points at 1200 fps or 215 swc at 1005 fps I think I would gain around 300 fps with the longer barrel of the carbine. Which ammo before shooting them would you choose for deer hunting?
I have some Speer Deep Curls loaded for hog hunting, 210 gr and some Lehigh Defense Xtreme penetrators, 150 gr, loaded also but they are not available now.
You might want to explore using some heavier hard cast in the future. There are quite a few companies with hard cast hunting bullets in heavier offerings. A lot of folks go that route for their handgun hunting. You would need to contact the company about the correct diameter especially if you are shooting a Marlin with Microgrove rifling.
I don't 'dis' anyone's personal choice of chamberings, considering some of my own! But I'd sincerely like to know why the .41 Mag over the Walmart available common .44 Mag chambering. I have a Smith & Wesson in .41 Mag M&P style, only acquired as a 'real deal' early eighties. But nowadays...???
Moving from the above question to a short comment that I way prefer a vintage Marlin 94 or 336 to any of the 'new stuff'! I did fall for a 1894-S of 1989 bought new, in .45 Colt! Going with my Ruger Blackhawk, 4" "old model" convertible w/45 ACP cylinder. Marlin Pix below.
