Seems like before covid the bullet mfr's were coming out with new HP's all the time. I've lost track. I carry Fed. hydrashock now & running low.
Time to get a batch of new carry ammo & figure if I'm gonna shell out for store bought I should try & get something that's effective as most, if not all. Prefer to stick with conventional type HP's, & avoid what I call the exotic stuff.
Suggestions?

https://www.luckygunner.com/labs/self-defense-ammo-ballistic-tests/#45ACPIf you scroll UP from this link, you can look at the stuff they've assembled. I generally go with Hornady 124 XTP loads, either standard or +P, but generally I buy the standard stuff (I have a Hi Power and they're not rated for +P), there's not much difference anyway. I DO use +P in my 1911 9mms and my old M&P. You can look at the photos of the expanded bullets, click here and there, see how much they do or don't expand, weigh, etc. etc. etc. '' It's a useful site.
You can roll a turd in peanuts, dip it in chocolate, and it still ain't no damn Baby Ruth.

Suggestions? Winchester Defender 180gr 40sw. Have a Bud Light with that 9mm?

The HST does look great in the test. Consistent in both standard & +P. Didn't seem to need all the speed it could get to open every time. Should be great in a variety of barrel lengths. Bullet shape looks feed friendly as well. Thanks again guys, ant that ammo not hard too find either. Win win.
And don't worry dla, I have a half dozen pistols in 40.

Fed HST'S, at least in 9mm & 45, are light years ahead of HydaShok's............literally.
Just about every test I've seen shows dramatic inconsistencies with HydraShok's that are just not seen with the HST's.

MM ^^^This^^^ It’s what I carry in my Hellcat P-365 if I’m not carrying them with the Buffalo Bore Outdoorsman Load.

XTPs are not terrible but Sig V-Crowns, Federal Punch and maybe Winchester USA probably better. The Punch is similar to HST at a discount.
HST and Speer Gold Dot are top tier and I’d want those as first line IMHO. 124 or 147. Whatever feeds and functions fine, and hits close to POA.

^^^This. These are my carrry load in my 9's. I buy them in the 50rd "LE" boxes. Winchester 147 PDX are also a load that has done very well in testing. The new 135 Hydrashock DEEPS look good also and peformed well in my redneck testing. Dont skimp a few dollars on ammo that may be required to save your or loved ones lives!!!

HST’s, GD’s in any caliber work. Another is Hornady’s Critical Duty. (Not the critical defense) Read the FBI is switching to them. Good results going through barriers and still preforming.

Combat accuracy & 100% reliability in the gun is a given, wouldn't own one that was otherwise. Or not for long anyway.
Simply about bullet performance. A maybe not a hands down winner, the HST looks among the top. The Gold dot just so hard to find, factory loaded or a component.
Thanks again guys.

In my experience the 124grain +P Remington Golden Sabre is tops. In my tests with 20% ballistic gel the Golden Sabre penetrated 14 1/2" and expanded to .680 inches. The Gold Dot is good but doesn't penetrate as deep

The Hornady 9mm +P Critical Duty Load did well In Lucky Gunner’s test.

Haven't looked for any lately.
