Hi all,
I was thinking about trying my 1911 in .45 acp for deer in close, but someone at a gunshop told me to check the case length requirement. It seems the rule is case length has to be 1.16 inches, which is greater than the .45 acp case length, which means I'm out of luck. Am I reading this correctly? Any help is welcome.

1.16 is rifle.
For handgun - Has to be over 35 caliber, straight wall and hold less than 9 rounds (mag/chamber combined). 45ACP would meet that standard with generally used magazines.

I don't know anything about MI hunting or its laws, but just reading this thread made me again realize how dumb our Fish and Wildlife rule makers are. If I understand this right, I could hunt with a 10mm in a 1911 style pistol that doesn't hold more than 9 rounds total. But, if I take that exact same round and put it in a rifle, it's illegal since the case is only 0.992" long. Even though in the rifle it's putting out even more horsepower than the pistol. Is that correct?

I don't know anything about MI hunting or its laws, but just reading this thread made me again realize how dumb our Fish and Wildlife rule makers are. If I understand this right, I could hunt with a 10mm in a 1911 style pistol that doesn't hold more than 9 rounds total. But, if I take that exact same round and put it in a rifle, it's illegal since the case is only 0.992" long. Even though in the rifle it's putting out even more horsepower than the pistol. Is that correct? As I read the reg, you are correct, but only in certain parts of the state. Above what used to be called the rifle line, you can legally hunt whitetail with a .22 Hornet or your 10mm PCC. Below that line, I can legally hunt squirrel and rabbits with a .30-06, but not whitetail. It’s kind of convoluted. Old70
