I have an opportunity at one of these. Not mint but not beat to crap either. Very nice bluing and a really nice looking walnut stock. Bore, 50 cal, looks good to. Any idea of the value? Accuracy?

They were well built and felt decent, if a bit heavy. Nicely finished rifles. Everything I read indicated they were very accurate, but I never shot one. I do remember them well and fondled several.
I could never figure out why it took 2lbs. and 6 inches worth of a Weatherby Mk V lookalike action to set off a shotgun primer, but to each his own…..

I ended up buying the A&H rifle. Turns out the stock is fiddleback maple. The stock has a few bumps and bruises but still a very attractive stock. Disassembly is a little tricky but once you figure it out is no problem. I did some research and the rifles made in Moab Utah seemed to be the ones that were most accurate. Hey, its the internet so who really knows?

Fast forward to today. I took the rifle out to see if it lives up to its reputation. I got on paper at 50yds with 100 grains of 777 loose powder and a 250 grain SST then moved to 100yds. First shot was 1/2" low and 1/2" left of center. Then I switched to a 250 grain Barnes with the same powder charge and it was high of the bull but centered. I tried a second Barnes and it went 8" low and left. No Bueno, so I switched back to the SST and it was right next to the first one, a little low and left. So I thought one more just to see and it cut the first hole. Now I have a 3 shot group under an inch. Gave the barrel a quick swab and loaded another round but gave the scope two clicks down and two right. Took the center out of the bull with that shot. Seems the Austin & Halleck is all they say it is. I have a T/C Omega that has been my go to for many years and a Kinght disc rifle that shoots very good allso. Now I have three MZ's that are tack drivers and all three shoot the same bullet and powder combo.

I have an A&H from Weston, MO, that is a good shooter. It is a little on the heavy side, but there are often trade-offs. Definitely shoots better with loose powder than with any brand of pellets that I tried.

Yep,mines on the heavy side but it sure tames the recoil down. Mines a pussy cat to shoot, very minor recoil. Mine has a Timney trigger that is very nice also.

I have an AH with stainless barrel and composite stock. Good trigger and smooth action but it cannot handle heavy loads. I have several in-lines and side locks but my GO TO hunting rifle in an older T/C Scout. I have shot it with 120 grs. of 3f and 370 gr bullets. An AH can't handle that. I normally use my 50 cal Scout with about 90 grs of 3f and a 350 gr T/C Hunter cast bullet. My AH just barley can handle that 90/350 but gets hard to unscrew the primer holder and the accuracy isn't any better than the Scout with either cast bullets on sabots. If you want a shooter the AH is okay; but, it's a little bulky for a hunting.

I shot 100 grains of 777 and a 250gr bullet. Accuracy was superb. I use that load in all three of my rifles. My Omega is my go to rifle but I may use the AH as I ground hunt with BP and centerfire rifles and don't have a long walk in. Heck I may use the Knight this year. Its nice having options.

In years past, I shot my 420 a lot. With two Pyrodex pellets (100gr) and 250gr Barnes X sabots, it would consistently shoot MOA...two in one hole and one slightly higher and to the right. Increasing to three pellets, it would open up to around 1.5 MOA. I never used loose powder in it but I suppose it would shoot well with it.

I’ve never fired one, but the ones I’ve seen appeared to be of very high quality.
