Picked up some more ammo for the scatter gun. In the past I purchased Federal LE Flight Control. Geeeeez the price is crazy - $12.25 for 5 freakin shells.
So grabbed a few boxes of Fiocchi Defense 00 Buck for $11 for 25 shells. Confirmed that is goes bang when the trigger is pulled. Not sure anyone is going to notice the difference on the receiving end.
What is everyone else running with? Running? Scissors. Mum told me they would put someones eye out.

I can afford an AR.
But I know they're not for everybody. Pop off a few rounds from a short Bbl'ed AR in a hallway? You better be able to afford cochlear implants as well. Ha! GR Sure, gramps.

Another 3" magnum with #4 buck affectionado here. 18" straight tube barrel. And, as mentioned, it kicks the snot out of a coyote too.

I worked a case where a psycho ex murdered his former girlfriend and her teen daughter in their kitchen, before he put the shotgun under his chin and painted the entire ceiling and room with his skull and brain matter.
If I recall correctly he was using 3" goose loads. T shot, which is .20"s (Off the top of my head if I remember the sizes right). It was truly a horrific crime scene and one that never has gone away in my mind. While I don't recommend using bird hunting loads, if heavy goose loads are all you have, it is better than nothing.
I personally prefer #4 Buck, 00 Buck, and slugs. Any of those will get the job done. I have worked on several shotgun shootings over the years. The most memorable was when a fellow's wife began having an affair with a guy who happened to be a local barber. The husband walked into the barber shop and shot the barber in the center of the chest with a 20 gauge and high brass one-ounce load of #6 shot. Most of the barber's lungs were scattered across the shelf and mirror along the wall behind him. From memory, the distance from shooter to victim was something like 12'.
Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.

Normal pheasant loads here…#6 shot I believe.
I have plenty of 00 buck on hand as well as some Dragon’s Breath but based on what I have seen normal bird loads do at less than 5 yards to (already) dead animals as well as 00 buck on people, I am not concerned about the pheasant load use for SD.

I promise you that anything you stuff in your 12 gauge will penetrate several walls of sheetrock inside the normal confines of your home.

#1 buck in the right barrel, #4 lead duck load in the left. All buckshot for reloads. Should handle anything from drunk wetbacks to rogue armadillos.

#9 shot is fine. Your range is short. Shoot a short cylinder bore and you will be persuasive.

I'd avoid pattern control Goose or Turkey type loads. Those things are made to hold tight out to 40 or 50 yards. Extremely thick & stiff wads, would be about like shooting a slug @ home, or even most yard distances. Common slugs much cheaper if that's what ya need. Agreed. Anyone using those flight control wads are basically going to be flinging the equivalent of a slug at indoor ranges. That's fine if it's what you want but to me it kind of defeats the purpose of using a shotgun for home defense. I use standard plain jane buckshot through a cylinder bore barrel. And you would still be shocked to see how tight the pattern is at less than 10 yards. I actually want to throw a bit of a pattern not a single wad of lead.

If I were to have a shotgun as my primary & fine tune for all it's worth, I'd order Federal or Winchester 2 3/4" #1 Buck. Don't remember their names but both brands have them with 16 pellets, as opposed to the standard 12. #1 is still .30 caliber. Not shabby... Yep, #1buck. 16 pellets. #0 buck. 12 pellets. #00 buck. 8 pellets, NOT nine pellets.
Don't ask me about my military service or heroic acts...most of it is untrue.

After reading this thread I realize that I need to find ways to attach ear plugs to all of my weapons for home defense. Need to prepare.

3”, 2 ounce, 12 gauge, copper plated #2 shot. 12 gauge buck bbl., IC choke. Point the bbl. in the room, pull the trigger and get your squeegee, a mop and a bucket of water. Gonna be a real mess. MTG

I might be the minority, but I run 7 or 8 shot in my 18" 870. My kids live on the same floor and down the hallway from my room. I don't want or need to penetrate every wall in the house. I also want a pattern...the shooting is going to be fast and most likely in the dark...the scattergun is perfect for that...but I need that pattern due to moving targets and my own piss poor heat of the moment shooting.
But I've also patterned it with these loads, and at the usual home defense distances, it will take a chunk of [bleep] off of a person and throw that chunk of [bleep] on the floor...

My nightstand has a pair of peltor comtac 3s sitting on it. Figure the three dogs will give them enough of a delay to get them on. If not, oh well.
