Here’s a link to what I am asking about. https://alaskaarmsllc.com/ruger-two-extra-round-floor-plate-standard-cartridges/

Has anyone used one of these in a rifle? I saw it the other day and started having thoughts of a Ruger built out as a carbine with it. Probably in something brush busting like a 35 Whelen.

Those thoughts intensified this evening. Went behind the house with 4 rounds in my rifle. Left the house thinking surely I won’t need more than that. Got into a group of pigs while crawling around in the swamp checking out some duck hunting spots.

Ended up killing 3 out of four because the third one needed two shots. Would have gotten the fourth with another round in the mag (or one in my pocket, could’ve reloaded). But one more in the pocket doesn’t get me a new rifle. Anyone built a Ruger around this setup? How is it if you have?

"Brush Busting" is a Myth. Hint.

I'd simply go S/S CTR Kreedmire and reap the double stacked 10rd mag,in their OEM 20" threaded guise. Balance/handling is there,as is the 1913 rail. The Ruger is a series of Goat Fhuqks. Hint..................

I hear you on “brush busting”. Probably poor wording choice there. I know deflections are going to happen if shooting through vegetation, particularly wood stemmed vegetation regardless of caliber and bullet. Really mean more just optimized for short range, as in heavy for caliber cast bullets with no regard for longer range performance.

Bullets I was using yesterday were 208 gr. ELD-M’s out of a 30-06. I’m huge fan of those and have had really good performance near and far with it. Just like to find an excuse to do something different now and then. Also, “far” is relative. Needing to shoot further than 300 yards is rare in my area. Relatively even mix of woods and pasture lends towards being able to position myself close before most shots.

Morris’s drop floorplates are genius and work perfectly. Anyone who thinks extra rounds in the magazine are not useful has had their hunting experience limited to single animals. A 6-round 35 or 9.3 is a deadly combo for large game, just as it was 100 years ago.

'Kid,

I'm not a Teeker Guy,but in their defense, the CTR is a rather Skookum platform. Hint.

While being NO fan of milk jug injection handles, the CTR is easily better than most,as ergo's go. Secondly,Teeker as a whole,HORRIBLY fhuqks up magazines and their bottom "metal" receptacles. The CTR however, wears a sound bottom and sips from exceptional mags to boot and are the only offering in the Teeker fleet, which are worth a fhuqk. In conjunction with same,it wears a rather good low profile 1913 rail,(both pinned and threaded)to bolster optics integrity. Ring spacing,is any/all scopes' BEST fhuqking friend. Hint.

The 208's aren't a horrid .308" bore sizing pitch and I've shot Jazillions of them. In a 700 '06,it's no thang to Smooch and nestle same,in OEM confines. Those are GOOD things. That being said,I'll happily trade a little mass,to eek more BC,increase velocity a goodly amount, reduce recoil even more and add a non-lineal amount of FUN to the equation. Thus enters the 20" CTR Kreedmire to the fray. For killing,it's hard for me Today, not to lean BTR Gen2 2-12x Mil/Mil Lit Bitch. Hint.

Less is VERY often more. Hint..................

Phil Shoemaker and the Alaska arms LLC owner got the ball rolling on this Floorplate. Over a year ago, I was contacted with opportunity on a group-buy on the first ones. Glad to see they've become common stock.

They also make one for the standard length magnums (338 win mag, 375 ruger, 416 ruger). Becomes a 4 down gun, which is smart:

Anyhow member jfo4 and Phil would be the guys here with first-hand experience.

Interesting. Maybe a SA version will be available in the future. I could see one on my M77 tang in 358 Win.

Anybody know if these work with the older tang safety M77s?
