Hate to hear that but I always knew I would someday. He was a great one along with his team mates...the guys who played for love of the game.

The Golden Age of professional football is becoming a dim memory.

Walt Garrison resembled the Marlboro Man didn’t he?

I have a good friend, an NFL veteran with a long 11-12 year career as a starter on a very successful team of the ‘70’s.

There is a tremendous difference in many aspects of the game between then and now. He is a very serious, steady type, but acknowledged that it wasn’t unheard of for a player to light a smoke or drink a beer at half time. That, high schools now have many times the strength and weight room that their team had then — that weight training wasn’t a sniff of what it is today. Just big, strong, and athletic guys.

And of course, now with the NFL Combine, The Draft, social media, politically correct Woke-ism and the money, the exposure has only exponentially increased.

Dandy Don said that when in the huddle on 3rd down he’d say, “Walt we gotta have 3 yds and Walt would get us 3 yds. Next time in the huddle on 3rd down he’d say, Walt we gotta have 5 yds and Walt would get us 3 yds”.

RIP, Walt.

Walt Garrison, Don Meredith, Craig Morton, Bob Lilly, Blaine Nye and the Zero Club, John Fitzgerald, Mike Ditka, Lee Roy Jordan, Jethro Pugh, Chuck Howley, Cornell Green, Mel Renfro, George Andrie, Pat Toomay, Bob Hayes …. Sigh, those were great days to be a Cowboys Fan.

How far they've fallen with Ol' Jerruh at the helm.

Besides, Staubach, my favorite to watch was probably Randy White.

Met Bob Lilly once at a Shot Show................peach of a guy, really down to earth.

Won't watch them at all anymore no matter how much the networks try to push them onto us.
