Had a bad week in Toronto, wanting the hell out of there. Got to the airport early, slammed Budweiser's till gate call. Fell asleep after buckling up, landing gear going down for a landing in good ol KY. woke me up.
Best flight I ever had.

That kind of thing used to occur with me, but only because it happened when it wasn't leaf falling time.

Too many working nights and having to sleep through normal daytime sounds, like garbage trucks, kids in the street, etc. But when the wife tried to be quiet around me.......................she learned to just make normal noise, don't try to sneak through the bedroom to get something.

Used to be able to sleep in airports all over the country on layovers sitting up in a former life workin for the man in the 90's. Guess that fits the thread topic.

I used to take roughly 4 to 6 flights a week when I delivered firetrucks. A couple drinks and I would be out until touchdown.

Yep, on a Bonanza Air Lines DC3 from Reno to Hawthorne NV as a kid. I remember my ears hurt.

Yes many times. The best nights sleep I ever had on a plane was flying Polaris class LAX to Sydney last year. I got 10 hours of sleep on that flight.

I slept like a log on Old Shakey from Hickam to NZ and then to the Ice and back. All over the Pacific Rim and most of the islands you couldnt find on a map if you knew where they were. Nothing like four BIG radials to massage your butt to sleep..

Theoretically.

Just a country boy..

Flown in plenty of helicopters. ( offshore oilrigs).
Never a problem napping in those.

Like Geno,

I can sleep anywhere i can get still. Day or night..

Crew boats ( 10’ seas), work boats, buses, helicopters, floor of boat docks, heliports, drilling rigs, rig floors..

On rigs, learned to sleep with noise.. ever wake up in a dead quiet.. something is amiss..

Too this day, i sleep with a fan going…

Flow a lot in my time...both in military and civilian A/C... C 97, C 130, C141, C 124, C 123, RF 4C, Huey, Chinook and Blackhawk.. all sorts of civilian A/C.... and have been up in several Goonie Birds...both C 47 and C 53, and the rarest, The C-117 Goonie Bird. Military Air Limo....

I liked flying in the Goonie Birds.. was very nostalgic for me, a WW 2 era A/C.

Never been on a flight in one running drugs out of South America tho...

The Goonie Birds and the 130s are probably the longest serving A/C in the military, minus the B 52s.

Spent years sleeping in trucks, parked and moving.

There's no better place to sleep than in the bunk of a truck, on a cold rainy day.
Bunk vents open, letting in cold air and the sound of tires picking up water, a big diesel purring and gently vibrating the cab, heater keeping the whole thing cozy. The occasional bit of mist coming through the vent, hitting you in the cheek.

Sure beats being parked beside a cattle rack, although I've slept beside them too.

I kind of miss flying in airplanes pulled along by two and four roaring radials. Flew from Travis AFB to Lackland AFB in a C54. After basic flew from Lackland to Chanute AFB in twin engined Convair. Boeing 707 to Nellis. Flew from Travis once more on another C54 to Tachikawa AFB Japan. Interesting flight as all the seats were facing the tail of the plane. Flew from Tachi to Osan AFB Korea in another C54. Left Osan to Tachi in a Tweeny Weeny Air Transport Service C46*. I didn't any of those were still flying. Cool bird. Then Tachi to Travis and back to civilian life in a DC8. I slept quite well on all those longer flights.
PJ
*Note the first letters on each ot the airlines name. They were owned and controlled by the CIA and contracted to serve all the military bases where that plane could land.
