What do I have to do to tune my bow?
I had the local shop tune my bow using the Easton 8.7gpi arrows and they shoot great. So Id say that the bow is tuned for those arrows.
Now, Id like to shoot some different arrows. I bought some that were 6.5gpi and they're shoot pretty good.
When someone tunes your bow, what are they doing? What are some of the adjustments that I would make when shooting different arrows?
Thanks for any info.

www.archerytalk.com and http://www.ncarcheryshack.com/rossarchery/index.phpThese 2 sites are full of valuable archery information. The ross archery site has a better group of guys who would be willing to help you out in my opinion.

A quick way to find out if your in the ballpark is to try shooting fixed broadheads and field points, if they are hitting together out around 60 yards you are looking pretty good. Fine walkback tuning and the other various methods are great and I always do it on my hunting bows, but for me the point of tuning is good broadhead flight and if they are hitting together way out you've got a good flying arrow.

You can tune a piano but you can't tuna-fish.

Pick which arrows you want to shoot, shoot throu paper if you get a bullet hole with no tares just shoot it. If you get tares in any direction go back to the archery shop and have them tune it with your arrows and watch what they do and ask questions.

Tuning a bow means the arrows are leaving straight.
On a un-tuned bow the fletches can hit the rest, raiser, or strings (compound bow) and flick the arrow to the left or up which causes them to wobble as they fly until the straighten out. This means you have to "move the rest" up down left or right.
But first you have to place the NOC mark on the string at a spot where it will throw the arrow correctly. i.e. push the arrow perpendicular to the raiser.
To get that lay a newspaper over the sting so each leaf falls on one side of the string, it'll make a perfect 90 degrees angle as it hangs down over the raiser. Center the paper on the anchor (the thing the sight screws into) and then put the noc marker half an arrow width above that. Most guy's like to put it up 1/4 arrow higher for some reason that works good.
So Steps 1) Place your NOC stop on your string 2) Adjust your rest up, down, left, or right. - Make sure the arm that holds the strings out of the arrows way is turned enough to keep it clear 3) Turn you arrows / NOC's so that your feathers have the clearest path through the rest area.
NOW - Set up a cardboard box with thin paper across it about 3 to 6 feet in front of the bow. Put a stop behind it.
Now shot the bow through the paper and look to see if the shaft hole is centered on the feathers. If the feathers are off right or left or up or down then you'll need to adjust your rest.

Tuning a bow can be ten seconds of work or ten hours if you can't find what's wrong. Basics, you need to check some things. Make sure the tiller on both limbs is identical. Distance to string from both limbs where they enter the pockets is equal. Next, make sure the bow is in specs. Axle to axle length should be on the bow, or string and cable twisting (bow in press) bring it in. Next cams need to be in synch, twisting one or other cable accomplishes this. Next rest needs to be tuned. I shoot through paper and move the rest until I get a bullet hole tear. If your arrow isn't spined right, it may never tune and you'll have to go stiffer or more flexible, or even change tip weight. It can be simple or a pain in the butt.

I find Easton's tuning guide to be the most useful resource. You can download it here: Easton downloads

that is great info st8. i have done most all of that with our bows, especially the bare shaft tests. i do a final fine tune by using bare shafts & either increase or lower draw weight to finalize.

You can tune a piano but you can't tuna-fish. That was my first thought!!!
Biden's most truthful quote ever came during his first press conference, 03/25/21. Drum roll please...... "I don't know, to be clear." and THAT is one promise he's kept!!!

You can tune a piano but you can't tuna-fish. Confused? That is the title of one of Meat Loaf's albums from the 70's.

Thanks for the advise guys. Still dont get the Tun-a fish joke.
Montanabadger: great article, extremely useful.
Olypen. I shot some muzzy points and they were hitting about 5 inches to the left at 40 yards compared to the field points. I then tried some Whack ems and they were right on. IOW, they shot exactly the same as my field points. Im popping balloons out to 60 yards and getting to know my bow.
Thanks again to all for your help. mike
