Surprised one of you guys have not jumped on this yet. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1013273356No, I am not affiliated in any way. I just thought it was a nice rifle. Still under $400.

That rifle is rebarreled with an XTR barrel from the 80's. They had to cut an extractor slot in it. Being totally unoriginal, it's not worth much to a collector, but if done right, could be a nice rifle. Not really my cup of tea though. Others mileage may vary.

The action is worth the price. Maybe right now. No telling if it will be worth the price in a week.

I wondered if the XTR existed pre 64.

I wondered if the XTR existed pre 64. No problem. The first XTR fwt was made in 1980 and made their debut in 1981. The rifle you found is interesting, as I always thought Winchester should have made a 257 Roberts fwt and 7x57 fwt pre 64 model 70. As we all know, the price it's at right now, does not mean that is what it's going to sell for. There may be a couple guys that say, damn I need this. But with the barrel stamp showing an 80's barrel on a pre 64, it's a turn off to me. We should put it to a vote/contest, and predict how much the rifle will sell for. I'm wagering about $800.00. Could be less, could be more???

Those are probably less money than what this rifle will sell for. We'll see what this one sells for though. Always interesting, what happens on GB.

The shank is shorter than normal. Lets hope they did the work right for sure. Not hard to do, if you know your stuff. Extractor slot and setting the barrel back and finish reaming it. The rifling looks good. If done right, probably a good shooter.

Good find AK. Whoever bought it, got it to his FFL and the FFL probably slapped him upside the fn head and said, "hey this rifle is totally unoriginal, how much did you give for it?"... Just a wild azzed guess there, but likely what happened. I was right that it would probably sell for around $800 as well. I'll keep an eye on it, but I'm pretty sure about that one. What's really funny is the price is going up on this one.. Probably by guys that don't know what it is. I'll send them an email and get some more info. Hopefully..

am in no way a collector. Just a shooter.
If 7x57 brass were not unobtanium at this point, I might put in a bid. Even though I have put 7-08 barrels on a Rem 700 and on a 7 at this point.

No one wants to make any bets, as to how much it will sell for this time?

No one wants to make any bets, as to how much it will sell for this time? Bout the same. Sum of parts. $900 isn’t/wasn’t bad for that stock and action.
