Can anyone please tell me whether the stock front cross-bolt on the Winchester Model 70 Safari Express (.375 H & H for example) has a thread a lot narrower than on the stock rear cross-bolt? I have a New Haven post 64 CRF .338 Win Mag Supergrade (which has only one stock cross-bolt) which has developed a crack in the stock from the recoil lug through the front action screw hole to the magazine cut-out. My stock-maker can repair the crack with a super-fine glue but advises that he needs to put a second cross-bolt through the stock just behind the recoil lug (similar to what the Safari Express has). However, there doesn't seem to be enough wood in the stock to drill a hole the same diameter as the single cross-bolt which sits further back. So it would seem that a front cross-bolt would need to have a much smaller thread diameter. Can anybody please tell me whether the front and rear cross-bolts have the same diameter thread on the Safari Express or whether (as I suspect), the front cross-bolt is much narrower in diameter for the thread portion? Thank you.

Yep, McCray is correct. My Safari Express has the same size cross bolts in both positions. On the front one, there isn't much wood there to play with, but it is there and seems to work.
