My first deer was with a sporterized 6.5 Italian Carcano carbine. My most recent rifle is a Weatherby Vanguard in 6.5 Creedmoor. That makes it sound like I mostly shoot 6.5's, but that's not so. I just shot an antelope with my Rem 700 .280 Remington Custom KS Mountain Rifle.

My first deer rifle was a Rem 660 in 6mm Rem. with a 3-9 weaver scope. My newest deer rifle is a Springfield Waypoint in 6mm creed with a 4-16 Athlon Midas tac scope. The only thing those two have in common is the bore size and muzzle velocity How things have changed

First deer rifle was a early model Remington 760 30-06 that my parents purchase used from my uncle. This would have been somewhere around 1965 and I think they gave him $75.00 for it.
My latest one, and one I have not hunted yet, is a JC Higgins Model 51 in 30-06 that I purchased a couple of years ago here on the campfire for $550.00. The plan is to use it this year.

Just walked through the door and there's a 243Win Montucky wearing a fhuqking 30mm Reupold Ocular Lit Bitch 50mm upon it,in Dog Schit mounts. Hint. There's stacks of Mail,so there should be some Reupold BC mounts and if I recall correctly a 6x MQ,Illuminatti and a 1-6x HD MQ LitBitch. I see one parcel that's a barrel for sure and I reckon it to be another 1-8" 7-08 spout. If the weather cooperates, there will be a CA Mesa 7-08 in my mitts his weekend. Hint. FIRST rifle was a 742 Twat-Six Carbine wearing a Cutt's. 3-9x Reupold and 165 Core-Rocks. Killed a LOT of schit with it,but miss it NONE,though it still exists. Hint...............

Well over forty years later since using a 30-30, on the last day of Miss. rifle last year.
336 Marlin in, yes, a 30-30.

My first deer killed was in November 1976 with a 7/8 oz. Western slug shot out of a Super-X Model 1 shotgun. My first deer killed with a rifle was on 10/18/95 with a 150 grain Barnes X bullet in a PMC Eldorado factory load shot from a pre-64 M70 30-06 SPRG. My last deer killed was yesterday, 10/18/23, using a handloaded 180 grain Hornady Interlock from the same pre-64 M70 30-06 SPRG.
