This morning, my electricity went out just long enough to reset all the clocks. When it came back on, it was at reduced power. The lights were dim, and a lot of stuff didn't work, like the garage door opener, and the TVs and computer wouldn't turn on.
After about five minutes, everything went back to normal. What caused this?

Bad leg, may have been missing a neutral. Can you say that in non-electrician language?

Notify your homeowner's insurance by email... IMHO...
Expect stuff to fail over the next few months.

Okee dokee! It's like stepping on the accelerator with a stopped up fuel filter. You get gas, just not enough! What others are saying about damaging your appliances may be correct! I know just enough about electricity to be dangerous! LOL!
Out here in the country, we only have a two wire overhead feed. It goes through a transformer that reduces it to two 120v legs that go through the meter to the breaker box. To get 240v for the clothes dryer, you pull 120v from each bus bar in the breaker box.

I went through that same thing. Finally called the power company. They found there was a problem before the meter underground.

Brown outs are much worse than blackouts - much more damage done.

Would this be like a single phase issue?
1 of 3 fuses at the pole be hanging?

Years ago I lived on a 43' Ketch at the Maryland Yacht Club (long story... don't ask).
We had a Regatta one July and 30+ boats came.
Voltage from the load... dropped to 201v minus. *Edit... 100v minus. It was a 120v system, not a 220 system... Been a long time and I was nixed up.
I switched to the Gen-Set...
Folks were pissed I was running the diesel...
BUT... they fried every A/C et al they had.
Low voltage cooks chit...
Simple fact.

We have switched to LED bulbs and tubes in our house, except for some incandescent bulbs over our dinner table. We live at the end of a long radial power line that suffers from the occasional brown out. When we notice the dimming of the dinner table bulbs we quickly head to the garage and turn the power off. If it is an extended brown out, we'll switch to the generator. Our neighbors have had kitchen appliances ruined by brown outs.

Low voltage is worse than no voltage- - - -even on a car. Idiots who keep grinding a starter as it slows down can melt down a bunch of expensive parts. A/C systems and other motor driven household appliances do the same thing during a brownout.

It's the power company...we had a big snow event like 25 years ago they came in and got the power back on in the subdivision but only half of iit...... half of my stuff didn't work ...... I went town to figure out whether I blew some breakers and stuff they turned the other half on after I was working on it .....learned that one right off the bat
I work harder than a ugly stripper....

1 of 3 fuses at the pole be hanging? A guy who has his house wired for 3 phase power but doesn't know what could cause a voltage sag might be in over his head.

Just like water……..only different. 😁
The A-4 engine ignition required 3 phase power source for starting. When you did your pre-start checks if the warning lights flickered, the warning tones sounded a little garbled and the seat wouldn’t adjust, the flight line electrical power had dropped a phase.
If you didn’t catch it you’d get a wet start where a huge cloud of fuel is just blasted out the tailpipe without lighting off. Pretty impressive on a really cold morning. 😁
