I recently purchased one on a whim and I'm impressed with how light it is and how good it feels in the hand. I can't wait to use it this deer season. it's my first knife with vg10, I was curious of thos that have one or used one, do you find them to hold a good edge and sharpen easy? I'm not one to use a knife to it dulls.

I have one that I bought, but I didn't really
like how short it was as a hunting knife to
carry. I've got it on a thong as a neck knife
for hoodrat self defense and carrying out
the trash, etc.

It's a sharp lil mojo. I whack it on a ceramic
rod every now and then, or the kitchen butcher
steel, depending on what I'm closer to at
the time.
I'm not one for all the sharpening gizmos
and use a regular dual grit Norton stone
or arkansas or steel or ceramic rod for a
touch up for everything

There was a time when VG-10 was considered high-end blade steel. And while it may been supplanted by other steels VG-10 remains a very good usable steel. It sharpens and touches up easily and holds that edge for a good while.

I like Spyderco's VG10. It's stainless enough for my use and it takes a nice edge. I sharpen on a Edge Pro Apex at 20 degrees when it needs a little more than a ceramic rod or a leather strop. It responds to all those rather easily.

Of the knives I have, no, it does not hold an edge as well as D2, S30V or S35VN but it's pretty close to 154CM and better than any of my 440C knives.

I like it because for me, it takes a quick edge and it's a favorite daily use steel. It has limitations, but for my pocket carry needs it hits a sweet spot.

It would not be a steel I would choose for hunting though. But then again, I've made lesser steels work for hunting back in the day. Just not my first choice these days.

Ive got several. Even an orange handled ( sprint run?) model somewhere.
Older versions had the hole in the blade?

IMO, spyderco moran is one of the best factory “hunting” knives made.

Thin and sharp.

Without looking, i want to say its .100”.

I like the handle shape also.

Good that it takes an edge easily, just what I wanted. I have a Benchmade with s30v that is a real whore to get an edge on.

It will hold an edge pretty well and touch up easily.

I've had one for a long time and really like them. Like Dave said, I think it's one of the best factory hunting knives available

I've had one for years. I think it went through 8 or 10 deer before it needed touching up. One of my favorite hunting knives only second to my Buck 192 Vanguard with a rubber handle

I didn't use mine because it's too short.
Ok for a utility type knife or to unzip unruly
hoodrats with

Too short? It has a 3.88" blade.

Just now looking at mine
Sharp useable cutting edge is a hair over 3 1/2

If I want something in around that length I
have folders that I can pocket carry.
I usually have a full sized trapper or moose
pattern in a pocket every day that can be used.
I can get a venison peeled and quartered and
iced down a lot quicker the way I do it with
a 6" - 7" knife

Of course, everybody should use whatever
they're most comfortable with

Everyone has their preference.

I used to want longer blades til Mike Miller sent me a couple with a 3” blade.

That change my thinking…

Oh yeah. And they have 3/32” hollow ground blades. 😍😍

Somewhere around 2000-2004 I picked up my original Spyderco Bill Moran.

Used it quite a bit, then gave it to my hunting buddy around 2008.

A few years ago I got a hankering to replace it

Yep. I think I bought mine in 2000 or so. One of the sharpest “factory production” knifes I had ever bought at that time. Seems like they were around $80 bucks back then. Still carry it as a spare knife in my hunting pack. No telling how many deer and hogs I’ve field dressed with it over the years.
Bought one for my little brother for his birthday the next year. It’s still his favorite hunting knife.
