Anyone had any issues with the Staball 6.5 powder? I’m shooting it in my 6 Creedmoor with 90 gr bullets and had 1 round hang fire. Small primer brass CCI450s
Thank you
In advance

I haven't had any, and I've gone through about 5 pounds of it.

I saw some guys on youtube complaining about this when using small rifle primers with this powder. You get what you pay for I guess. I've never had a hangfire with this powder, and I've burned up a lot of it. I use large rifle primers in my creedmoor brass though.

I've been burning StaBall6.5 in 2 different 6.5 creedmoors, a 7x57, 280AckImp, and a 338-06 with bullets ranging from 120gr to 225gr and I've yet to experience any hangfires. I've used Fed 210, 210 match, standard Winchester, cci 200, and Remington 9½ LRP, and Mag LR primers in the cartridges I listed.

Not trying to be pretentious but is it possible that the burn speed of StaBall6.5 mixed with the small rifle primers your using could contribute to less consistent ignition?

I'm running 6.5 Staball in a 243 Win and a 6.5CM, friend runs it in his 6.5CM as well. Everything is LRP, CCI 200and Federal 210M, and no issues with ignition to this point and we've gone through a couple 3 pounds combined. Don't think it would cause a hangfire but did you check the flash hole?

No issues in 7-08 or 6.5 Creed…running large rifle primers though.

I’ve not had a hang fire with anything I’ve used it in, but they are all LRP. Maybe I’ll load up some SRP 6.5 CM brass I have and see. Hmm…..

Doubt it’s the powder. Bad primer

Large rifle, mostly Federal 210M, but also CCI and Remington.

I hear what you are all saying. It only has happen once. I took my bolt apart and checked it out. The only brass I could get locally was small primer so that’s what I am using. I have some large primer Hornady brass I’ll see how that works out.
Thank you

No hang fires, but massive velocity swings related to temperature.

No hangfires w/ it in 6CM (a barrel worth) or 6.5CM (just a few 100 rounds). But all LRP brass. Similar experiences for a few shooting buds.

Bad primers or SRP would be my guess.

I've not had hang fires and I am also using it in a 6CM. I have had some pierced primers using SRP (CCI 400's) in Federal Gold Medal brass. I had 3 out of 20 pierced, using 43 grains over a 112 Barnes match burner. The others showed some cupping. The factory 107 SMK's from Federal shot fine with no cupping or piercings. They are pierced, not blown as there isn't any gas leakage/powder burns on the case head. This would be the second firing on these cases.

No issues with large rifle primers.
