We had a busy 4 days! I really didn't want to put the boat away but we looked over the time left and couldn't find any to get out...so on Thursday I brought it in to get some warranty things done on it and get put in storage for the winter. I'll probably pull it out and start using it again the end of March or beginning of April. Thursday night was kicked off with a batch of chili I made on Wednesday evening. Friday we to the range in checked some zeros and sighted in a few that got glass. We shot 6 rifles. New scopes on Jacks 7600, Odd-6 and my new to me .270 Win M70 fwt XTR, Win m64 30-30 (open sights) needed sighting. The CA Mesa .308, .243 m70 fwt XTR, and Kimber MT .223 were dialed already. I don't know why I have anything other than the Kimber .223 and CA 308. lol They're so sweet to shoot and consistant. Saturday morning Jack and I left house at 0500 and headed way up north to chase some birds. It was grouse-y day with highs on the low 40's and misty/rain mix. We flushed 14, shot at 8 and got 2. Beautiful country. Jack shot the brown phase, dad shot the gray phase We rolled back into the driveway at 1900 amd we were both wiped. We were back up early in the morning on Sunday for probably the final "work day" in WI but it was a doozy.

Sunday was a perfect morning with leaves at their peak as far as I could tell. Like Teal, we fixed up a few stands and put up a few new one. But the woods are about ready to pop off next weekend I think. Rubs and scrapes all over. But most of the buck movement looked like it was still happening at night. So far this is the biggest one we have seen around. I expect that to change this week. These are from a spot I call the "Double Ladder" because...well, it's a double ladder. It's the stand Jack shot his first deer from and has still been one of our most productive for deer sightings. But nobody has ever shot a buck from it. This is just to the south of the Double Ladder This was just out of bow range from the Double Ladder. For the first time ever for me, I hung a scrape dripper on a mock scrape I made closer to the stand. I plan on bowhunting it if we have a W or NW wind later this week. We put up a new blind in a spot the kids found a small scrape at a few weeks ago. I pissed in the scrape when they found it and they laughed at me. We went back to check it and see if it was worth the time to set up a blind. Here is what we came up on. Needless to say the blind and a camera went up. That's about 40 yards from the new blind. I could rip one out there with my bow but I'm hoping it will be a closer shot before it gets to the scrape to check. Here are a few trail cam shots from other spots.

Lol, I've been there lots. Kid hadn't so we took off and showed him around. They make a decent knife in a lot of shapes/sizes.

Bark River to Gwinn area down to Ford river. Had to stop by some Yooper camps. Forgot how they like to "visit". My liver is destroyed. Bark River Knives ain't half bad either. Lots of old Marbles guys there. I'm originally from Bark River family wise and hunt there. BRK is good - Mike used to own a good sporting clays course south Bark River. Loved shooting there when he was running things. Came so damned close on winning Marble's swag at the Poly-Choke shoots. Damned Lewis - had I missed one more bird, gold engraved Marble's Ruger #1, only 10 made to the winner. My great Grandfather was knife shop foreman for Marbles for a long time and his son-in-law, my great uncle took that over from him. Lived in Rapid River but he's gone now too. When my father passes, I'll get my great-grandfathers M1999 Savage, 30-30 with an old steel Weaver 4x post reticle on top. Used it on my first deer hunt. Great Grandfather, 2nd from right Him, years later, running a lathe. Great uncle Bob - far right at Great Grandfathers deer camp on Stonington Peninsula. Me, shooting said Poly-Choke at Orchard Hills Sporting Clays - Bark River, Mike was running Marbles at the time, hadn't started BRKT. So this had to be like 1999/2000 - can't remember.
