I recently picked up a M700 Ti and want to remove the lock. Is anything more required than just a replacement shroud? TIA.

Replace the whole firing pin assembly to get rid of the spring too.

It’s been a while but if I remember correctly I just bought a PTG firing pin assembly (about $62) and replaced the j-lock assembly. About a 10 minute job. A vice, a flat piece of steel (or a large screwdriver), and a dime were all the tools needed. Google the technique. Your trigger pull might change and need readjustment. Well worth doing in my opinion. I had a j-lock lock itself once. No tool with me of course since I never used the lock. A large boar hog lived another day, and I had to get down from my stand and go home.

What he said. The goofy firing pin spring has lots of drag. I am not sure if changing shroud only even works. A Gre-Tan assembly takes no time to install.

I’ve bought several of the PTG firing pin/shroud assembly’s and they worked fine. It’s a super easy task to change out and get rid of the locks assembly.

I just go out of my way to avoid them if there’s any alternatives, because if you’ve ever had to deal with their customer service - you will all of a sudden appreciate the USPS version.

The ISS/J Lock feature is easily defeated-
Disassemble the firing pin assy ROTATE the firing pin 180 degrees upon re-assembly DEFEATED ISS/J Lock firing pin/shroud.

The problem with jlock is not the lock itself but rather the crazy long spring and all of the binding and dragging.

That stupid spring is about 20% too long and on the couple of rifles that I had with the lock, you could actually hear the spring rubbing on the inside of the bolt. Easy to replace the firing pin assembly.
