Santa came early to my sod hut here on the lone prairie. 'Santa' Stan (Ware) finished up our latest collaboration, an RFD actioned 30BR 10.5 lb. BR rifle. I've got 50 new cases all made up and ready to fireform as soon as the weather gets somewhat bearable. When I left for the SGR shop early this morning, it was 14 degrees and winds were 20-30 from the NW. Wind chill factor was a crisp -20 degrees...almost needed gloves. We'd had a freezing rain just before midnight so the roads were as glazed as a fresh Krispy Kreme. The 100 mile trip to Stan's was interesting. Merry Christmas to all. -Al [img][/img]

Very nice Al,
Planning on mostly 118 Bib's, 17 twist? Who's barrel did you go with?
If I get around to it, I think I'm going to try a new barrel on my bench gun for the local varmint matches out to 400 yds next year. I'm thinking of going with a 30x47 Lapua. I like the scoring advantage of a 30 caliber bullet, and a little extra velocity wouldn't hurt trying to minimize wind drift at 400 yds.

Thanks for the nice comments, Karl. The barrel is a 1:17 Rock cut rifled. Paul and James at Rock are serious shooters and have been turning out some great shooting .30 cal tubes. I've shot the excellent BIB 118's for many years and have also started making my own .30 cal. bullets (Dakota B1's) last season with the help of BIB's Randy Robinett. The 30X47 Lapua is a great way to go, Karl. The .30's seem to respond to opening the flash holes to .072-.075 from the 'out of the box' .062 size, fwiw. Best wishes for a very merry Christmas. -Al

Al...very nice Christmas present....MERRY CHRISTMAS to ALL
I don't always venture out into the sub-freezing darkness, but when I do, it is deer hunting season, and I carry a Remington. Stay hungry my friends.

Santa goofed. I think that was supposed to come to my house.
Nice rifle and Merry Christmas.
Dave.
