My bud's camp that is. I went and helped him set up a shooting house, feeder and hang on stand. His camp is in Coffeeville, in South AL. The topography there is fascinating. There are some very steep hills and even some 40-50 foot cliffs. You wouldn't think you'd find that in South Alabama. This cliff is about 40 feet straight down, then another 60 or so feet of about a 70 degree slope.

We towed the shooting house to the food plot on a big flatbed trailer. We were way over the max tow capacity of the little 450 ATV. At one point on a rutted downhill the trailer shoved the back end of the ATV around. We narrowly averted disaster. I forgot to take pics of the trailer with the ATV jackknifed. Here's a pic with the trailer and the shooting house set up.

We have already had some good bucks showing up on camera. I convinced my bud to put some cameras off in the woods instead of just on the food plots. He did, and this one stopped by today. This is about as good as it gets in this area. You'll get an occasional buck that goes better, but it's not often.

He's back on the camera right now. I don't think he's very old, but I am not great at guessing age.

I thought it was “lower Alabama”?
Worked with a guy that always said he was from LA.

That's my old neck of the woods. The terrain is definitely interesting and can be quite challenging to get dead game out of without ropes and snatch blocks depending on where it chooses to die at.

As far as that buck, you won't see many better than that within 30 miles of that area.

You definitely hope for a DRT shot on most of the lease. It's going to be a major goat rope if they run.

This is hilarious. My bud went after the big buck today. The one on the left is the big buck. Look at the time stamps.

That's about par, huh? Probably happens more than we realize. I'm one of those that believes mature bucks pattern us/hunting pressure just as often and effective as we attempt to pattern them. I'd bet they are experts actually. Great pic!

It will be interesting to see if this changes the buck's activity. He's been a regular visitor both day and night. He has not shown himself on any of the food plots, so I am sure he's wised up to human activity to some degree.

He may be older than you think..........I'm thinking 4.5 year old. Another year would be great if you are hunting a large tract of private land.

One chapter has come to a close. My bud is friends with the guy who has the neighboring lease. His friend sent him this text.

It happened to another bud of mine yesterday. Guy on the neighboring lease got the big boy he'd been watching since August.

My bud had a recent visitor that is worth getting excited about. I am going to have to buy my AL non-res license and go hunt with him.

A few months ago, this stud was sighted not too far away. If it had been killed, we would have heard about it.
